The Bodleian Library is the main research library of the University of Oxford. Founded in 1602 by Sir Thomas Bodley, it is one of the oldest libraries in Europe. With over 13 million printed items, it is the second-largest library in Britain after the British Library. Under the Legal Deposit Libraries Act 2003, it is one of six legal deposit libraries for works published in the United Kingdom, and under Irish law it is entitled to request a copy of each book published in the Republic of Ireland. Known to Oxford scholars as "Bodley" or "the Bod", it operates principally as a reference library and, in general, documents may not be removed from the reading rooms. .. more

Once they arrive, you can find them in our Self-Collect area! Library use only items have red slips (left) and loanable items have blue slips (right) 📕📘
My sister has gone missing! Ruby is red and gold like her egg, and normally lives in the library fidget toys basket (our hoard).
Could she please be returned home, so we can return to ruling our domain together (and providing well needed r&r for our readers)?

1. Rare Materials Teaching Room (first floor)
This room is available as a reading room when not in use for teaching; check the digital
display outside the room to see if it is free
2. Multimedia Reading Room (first floor)
3. Graduate Reading Rooms (first & second floors)
These rooms are available for postgraduate students to use
4. Digital Study Room (ground floor)
Please borrow any collections items before heading to ground floor spaces.

We know the main reading rooms can get quite full during busy periods! Luckily, we've got lots of big, quieter reading rooms that you are also free to use for study 📖🤫

The library will then be closed for the holidays! ☃️
