Lovely to see the Novelistas
yesterday. There were celebrations and commiserations (as always). We’ve been through so much together over the years.
Oh and there was Rocky Road too.😋

Every major UK newspaper - left, right, broadsheet, tabloid - is running a front page campaign against copyright carveouts for AI training.

I can't remember the last time any political cause had such broad support, let alone one so anti-big tech and so economically consequential.

I enjoyed a writerly catchup with the Novelistas today where we all salivated over Louise’s cheesecake. 😂

Haha, cake was essential 🍰
I’m very grateful to @louisemarley.bsky.social and @bossynovelista.bsky.social Cardew for bringing me essential supplies (pencil sharpener) which I forgot to pack. There was also cake in a brief interlude from @gladlib.

also, we’re funny as hell so how could we not 🤷🏻‍♀️
Autistic people making jokes about THEIR OWN autism/autistic experiences isn't making light of or making fun of autism

It's often done to help spread awareness. It can also be a coping mechanism. It can also be so other autistics who relate can have a laugh and feel less alone

I really needed to read this today.

Thank you! So important to surround yourself with good, supportive people. Not always an easy task though.
Always the best fun with the best people 😊
It’s ok! Seems to be working now. Sorry 🫣
Can anyone see the image above? I’ve tried twice and added alt text and it seems to post fine, but then the image is grey/blank on my phone ☹️

an unexpected benefit of Autistic unmasking is that the bigots in my life have been compelled to unmask as well, unable to hold their vile tongues

leaving me w no doubt which relationships are toxic & good to walk away from

it’s a beautiful freedom!
all sparkly & multifaceted like a diamond

Long #Thread
Before my late in life #autism diagnosis I had occasional emotional outbursts. These generally happened at home after a sustained period of pressure at school or at work.
When I discovered I was #Autistic I realised that these were actually what people call #meltdowns.

Optimist: the cup is half full

Pessimist: the cup is half empty

Literary Agent: the cup is full of potential but sadly the market for cups is so hard these days. Mugs, however…
Optimist: the cup is half full

Pessimist: the cup is half empty

Creative writing lecturer: describe the cup without using the word ‘cup’, ‘half’, or ‘empty’. You’ve got 15 minutes.
Optimist: the cup is ½ full

Pessimist: the cup is ½ empty

Illustrator: Depending on the angle, you may not be able to see what’s in the cup at all. You need to be more specific in your brief. What else is around the cup that we need to be able to see?

This bunch are really funny. Worth a follow; and if anyone asks whether autistic people have a sense of humour, steer them to this feed.
