I just watched the film this evening. Drove an hour to the nearest movie theater that was showing it. Had a whole conversation with my friend afterward about text vs subtext and how many people somehow miss the *entire point* of the novel.

I read a ST:TNG novelization during a high school German Club state conference instead of getting drunk on Daytona Beach with everyone else. Of course, I went to my first Doctor Who convention when I was eight. So the nerdiness is pretty deeply ingrained, you see.

Australia's humpback whales are doing so well that their population is expected to reach carrying capacity and plateau in the near future--they have not just reached but exceeded pre-whaling numbers. For this to happen with such a long-lived, slow-reproducing species is near miraculous. #goodnews
