Ok so over on Instagram I used to track my reading and always had nice chats with people about books so I’m going to move that over here now that I’ve deleted my Insta. (I’m also on StoryGraph as mittenstrings.)

I try to read 100 books a year. I fail as often as I succeed.

The book isn't exactly YA, but it mostly works as a Vietnam war allegory.

The film has elements of camp and great practical FX, though its incredibly grim ending doesn't entirely satisfy.

This is a very stupid and bad take and we do not have to nod sagely and pretend it’s not very stupid and very bad.

Anthropomorphizing an algorithm does not, in fact, make it a human being. You actually cannot do a eugenics to a computer!

if you're writing a sentence that sounds like eugenics but you go "oh that's fine to say because it's not a real person" (whatever that means) you may want to consider what made you okay with saying that

I mostly love being an old mom, it’s really easy to be chill and even handed with your children when you’re this proximate to death, but I think there’s a reason most 42-year-olds aren’t breastfeeding.

The baby is going through one of those feeding regressions where he quits solid food to go All Boob All The Time and the thing is he is also now walking so he needs SO MANY CALORIES and he’s too busy to eat during the day so instead he is just waking me up 400 times a night.

It’s a scary season tradition: I tell @joelipsett.bsky.social I don’t like scary things, he hand-picks a text that I will find value in, I act surprised that I liked something scary, lather rinse repeat.
