If you haven't noticed, the Republicans don't care and the Democrats don't act

The American opposition has been astoundingly quiet. I suspect that if the union of French second level school librarians was to organize opposition it would be far more effective than this

In business and management the UTD24, a list of 24 journals that somewhere along the way the University of Texas at Dallas put out, is seen as the most gold standard.
Honestly, when academia put US academia on the altar it was a grave grave mistake.

The currency issue is the impossible trilemma.
This has been explained to Scottish politicians for decades but they are unable to come up with a coherent plan to explain this to the voters

brianmlucey.bsky.social
Yes.
Did you expect anything else? Many are quite happy with this. Others are absolutely precarious and will not put their head above the parapet.
Most university leaders are a politicians and well...

brianmlucey.bsky.social
Yeah maybe. But you've got to get that whole we're independent thing going. I mean we did it. 100 years ago. Take your time.

brianmlucey.bsky.social
And the opposition is doing what? Is it thoughts and prayers? Because that worked so well for school violence

feds have been all over chicagoland today.

reports of people abducted from back of the yards, cicero, rogers park, hermosa, barrington, batavia, and bridgeview.

feds are out in force in aurora. not sharing video, but residents have likewise turned out in force—and they aren't happy.

Looking at the screaming mess of insanity that passes for UK politics, there is zero chance of the EU ever letting you guys within an asses roar of joining.

brianmlucey.bsky.social
Which is wonderful. But it's going to have absolutely as much effect on stopping authoritarianism in the United States as thoughts and prayers did for stopping your epidemic of school violence. You need to think outside the box that you're in

The academics, of whom I am one, are absolutely not going to save America from itself.
There is no situation in history where the academics have done this. Most often their leaders, academics themselves, have jumped on board the fascist train

The UK .
Don't you recall the debate about breaking laws in a limited and specific way?

It seems like they didn't bother to actually talk to any of the other parties the agreement.
This is English exceptionalism once more come up, to believe that if Johnny Foreigner doesn't like it he'll just have to lump it hey what

brianmlucey.bsky.social
UK is a country that said it was going to set out to deliberately and specifically break international law for its own domestic political party political ambitions. And you think that makes you a trustworthy partner ever again?

Bluesky folk.
Of what popular TV series have you never seen a single episode nor have any desire to?
For me, it's The Traitors....

brianmlucey.bsky.social
I love the idea that they're a great fan of performing theater and never heard of Godot

And in absolutely none of them didn't make the slightest difference to the actions of ICE

The Americans are not going to get out of this by dance parties, dressing up as Mr blobby, or ringing church bells

It's interesting seeing the different ways resistance has formed in different cities. Los Angeles Organized, Chicago Radicalized, and Portland Got Weird as Fuck. All 3 have had success unifying their respective cities.

I guess my point is there are multiple paths to ungovernability.

brianmlucey.bsky.social
Can you? Looking from the outside it seems your opposition is fragmented, vacillating, milquetoast, ineffective, and fighting the 2015 war. Given the USA response to school massacres is "thoughts and prayers", don't hold your breath on change.

So another day and more brown folks getting abducted off the streets of the USA by masked and in many cases unmarked and unidentifiable men.
And Americans....do nothing. Nothing effective. I'm sure there are lots of thoughts and prayers which work so well to stop school shootings...

Happy to be corrected. God that was a long time ago...
I was working in the department of health and latterly the central bank

brianmlucey.bsky.social
Correct there used to be in Talbot Street I believe. I recall eating there. They had a salad bar.
