After 2 years of work, I've finally taken delivery of an actual printed copy of my second book 'The Magic of an Irish Rainforest: A Visual Journey'.

I've done my best to capture the essence of these priceless, but mostly dying, ecosystems, and am over the moon with the results. 🌎

TELL THE TRUTH
In a time of deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

The climate and ecological crisis is already with us.
We need immediate action to avoid unspeakable human suffering and irreversible damage to the natural world.

Apparently rationality is not a reliable measure of fossil fuel policies, though. I worked for a time in big renewables, side-by-side with big oil people, and while some of them were rational...a lot of them were insanely greedy. Nothing mattered but money and status quo.

Iceland has designated the potential collapse of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) a national security concern and an existential threat.

Yet still fossil fuel usage continues to grow, and they barely agreed to *name* the problem at #COP30.

Iceland has designated the potential collapse of a major Atlantic Ocean current system a national security concern and an existential threat, enabling its government to strategize for worst-case scenarios, the country's climate minister told Reuters.

“The younger generation is the most ecologically informed ever."

They are also “the most emotionally involved in [nature loss], have contributed the least to [its] causing, and are going to suffer most as a result.”

The power of rewilding to transform our own lives, as well as nature.

This is particularly stunning because the sheer number of times we demonstrated Bjorn Lomborg was just flat-out lying grew so large that it almost became literally pointless to keep doing it, because he just ignores it and keeps on going

Elon Musk’s new pay package could amount to $100B per year.

That's the same as 3.2 million cashiers’ paychecks combined.

It’s more than 1.4 million elementary school teachers’ paychecks.

It’s more than 2 million janitors’ paychecks.

Billionaire greed is out of control.

It's not only wildflowers, birds, or butterflies that bring bright colour to an Irish rainforest.

Fungi add their splash too, like these lovelies on the trunk of a standing dead holly.

Great to hear a scientist and environmentalist - @elainemcgoff.bsky.social - and a farmer in nitrates derogation separately say the same thing here: that the government-led drive for maximum productivity was a MASSIVE mistake, with our rivers and (now, potentially) farmers paying the price.
I had the a welcome opportunity to move beyond the standard Punch & Judy media setup to properly look under the derogation hood, & explore why the Government measures are failing our waters & failing our farmers.

Excellent conversation. Not to be missed.
I listened to this conversation the other day, and it's *brilliant*.

In a time that can often seem very dark, we're seeing stirrings that give real hope for another way of doing politics, based on integrity and people power: Mamdani in New York and the UK Greens being among the best examples.
I really loved this conversation with @georgemonbiot.bsky.social - I've thought about it lots ever since.

Hope you enjoy it too!
