Not sure where to start?
I made a starter pack of 5 essays for the grief-stricken, the burned out, and the quietly determined.
Start Here
A gentle guide for the tender-hearted, the burned out, and the quietly hopeful.

thank you for your coverage!! love your substack!
love this messaging - it's also great for energy independence and resilience. so many benefits.
There are moments so still the universe forgets which way time is supposed to flow.
An answer to:
Climate communicators often state "all doom and gloom messaging" will only depress people & reduce activism and finding climate solutions. Is this actually true?

It is unfortunately not the case that "the harder it gets the more they dig in," as the human brain has remarkable defense mechanisms that surface to enable us to continue functioning under duress.
In the case of climate, those defense mechanisms result in denial, violence, paralysis / inaction, scapegoating, despair / inaction / giving up, etc.

So it is in our best interest to find ways of making the climate crisis more approachable to bypass these defenses!

This pack is a living list. Who’s missing? Drop climate thinkers, doers, and dreamers you follow on Bluesky. Link for context: https://go.bsky.app/G9ynaXP#ClimateNetwork
this book "Surviving Climate Anxiety" came across my feed recently and piqued my interest - has anyone read it? thoughts?
It breaks my heart receiving calls from students in a panic about being accused of using AI on assignments where they never used AI.

People. If you are going to police AI use, the most important thing you can do is be human. Remember there is a human heart on the other end of that accusation.
The "silent majority" is where the vast majority of people want climate action but they don't talk about it because they think other people won't agree.

I imagine if that problem were resolved we would see climate climbing in voter importance.
Climate change and the environment is important to voters! Twice as salient as crime!

Not saying it needs to be the primary platform plank, but green policy is not turning anyone away from Dems.
this is a collage I made to describe my purpose statement “for people and planet”

A mentor pointed out that it made her think of “the people’s planet” and “the planet’s people,” which birthed this yin and yang symbol representing the people of the planet and the planet of the people.
switching from SMART goals to HEART goals:

H = honest

E = energizing

A = aligned

R = realistic

T = transformative

Skeletons aren't just bones—they're stories. Steve Huskey’s "The Skeleton Revealed" shows how vertebrate skeletons reveal movement, behavior, and evolution. From chameleons to alligators, these displays show how bones shape the form and function for survival. ➡️ https://nature.ly/4hxrt8C
I feel like something that often gets lost in the climate conversation is:
it's not succeed or fail.
it's: every bit of CO2 makes it worse, and every bit of emissions reduction and conservation makes it better.

If you take the time to read the whole Gates memo (which I did), the bulk of the content was mostly solid and encouraging. Really!

It was the FRAME that was off--very off, from the first line.

And when your framing is off, then how you make decisions and set priorities is off. THAT'S the problem.
silent majority! 💪✊
“Recent studies show that between 80% — 89% of the world’s population wants to see climate action. Many would even contribute 1% of their income to make that happen, even tho people vastly underestimate their peers’ desire for change. Members of this “silent majority” come from all walks of life…”’
‘I worry about the future of my daughter’: the ‘silent majority’ who care about the climate crisis
Readers who are part of the 80-89% of the population who want to see climate action tell us their ideas on how to make their voices heard

I am perpetually curious about sail cargo as a climate solution. A prime example of how solving climate change can make the world more awesome.
Fossil-fuel guzzling ships power the global supply chain. One climate solution is good ol’ fashioned sailboats.

The world’s largest wind-powered cargo ship is on its maiden voyage, carrying cars and cognac. Its destination? Baltimore, where it’ll arrive today.
