E.C. Tubb's "Dumarest of Terra" series was enjoyable planetary adventure in a vast universe. If Hollywood is looking for a new franchise, Dumarest's search for a long-forgotten Terra might make a good choice.

This actually makes a lot of sense, evolution wise, since ants are *everywhere* except Antarctica (no ants in ANTarctica? what the hell? get cracking on that, evolution!) so you rarely go hungry. A bigger question might be why anteaters haven't evolved even more often.

In other news, a jury summons. Even if I wasn't over 70, a valid excuse if you want to use it, being Hilde's primary caregiver would exempt me.

Wow, I knew getting some electrical work done on the house would be expensive, but damn....

(I do a lot of upkeep myself for other things, but electricity is something I'd rather not fool around with.)

Not saying I'm speaking from an actual 70's experience, but never have more than six people on a waterbed; eight is too many. There's a "wave effect" that keeps escalating, and it's embarrassing when you and a young lady get flipped off the side of the bed.

Yesterday's heavy downpour here was a lot worse towards southeast Phoenix and Tempe. Heavy damage to a number of Tempe homes & buildings, numerous trees downed, and the Phoenix Zoo will be closed for two days for cleanup and repairs. (No animals injured, thankfully.)

Part of the bedroom redecoration project here is doing the sliding closet doors in dry-erase paint. Lots of warnings and safety precautions on the paint can, so it'll be a good time to have the windows open and the three-foot-wide whole-house fan running.

I wrote a second "Chicago Red" story, but it needs some editing before I submit it.

(And a few hours free time to sit down and do that editing. And more time for edits and revisions on other first-draft stories from the last few years.)
