This is true and they are super endangered by poachers who shovel them up by the hundreds and sell them at flea markets and shit. You should not buy the plants and if you happen to kick the poacher in the shins on accident, no one will hear about it from me.

I remember this argument happening on MESSAGE BOARDS, back when I was the teen in adult spaces. It has been going on that long! People just want to be big mad about sex.

They say they want new things in fantasy, then authors from marginalized groups do new things, but they don't like that, they want the new thing to be like the old thing except new.

What they really want is a book to rewind time and make them young again, something no book or anything else can do.

AFAIK, a bunch of under-18s on TikTok got squicked out by prompts like "incest", "CNC", and "age play" being on the "official" prompt list. Then people were rightly like "why are minors participating in Kinktober?" and now the convo has devolved to where you see it now.

To me, it’s a very immature thing to do. Teenagers are generally very ego-focused and want to see themselves in the role of the main character. You’re supposed to grow out of that, though, and be able to empathize with someone outside your identity.

You’re not weird, they are. I haven’t wanted to self-insert into a FMC since middle school. It’s why I never got into Twilight or 50 Shades. If I want to self-insert, I can write that story myself* 😂
