It's not our fault that for years we used the only emotional regulation "tools" we knew, including dissociation. We couldn't use tools we weren't taught or modeled. We weren't "choosing;" we were running the only patterns we had available.

Trauma responses aren't "choices."

In realistic trauma recovery there is no self-care gesture too "low effort" to count. CPTSD is a vampire when it comes to our energy levels.

Nurturing ourselves in a dozen low-effort ways, if that's the wattage we have available, beats effortful sh*tting on ourselves every day.

Complex trauma survivors don't need or want to be infantilized or condescended to. We do want & need people in our lives who can realistically acknowledge our needs & strengths so we don't have to explain the history of Rome or reinvent the wheel every time we engage w/ someone.
