Solidarity, people!

Not recriminations

Not "I told you so."

Solidarity.

Can we stop and talk for a minute about how ridiculous the idea that an adversary would launch just one missile is? ‘Cause it’s kinda really important. It’s like “vampires and zombies exist” level of belief suspension but nobody calls Twilight an important movie to watch.

A single nuclear warhead, of unknown origin, is heading toward the U.S. mainland in Kathryn Bigelow's new Netflix film. It's an unnerving scenario — but it's also thrilling to watch. n.pr/48przga

Catch me on BBC News in about 15 minutes, talking about the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.

Yeahhhh I just found a local news org with video (starts here: bsky.app/profile/unra...) and just, wow.

Notice how Fr Dowling has his hands covered with a veil of silk while he's holding the monstrance? It's so holy that you do not touch it with bare hands.

Father Larry attempts to walk toward the detention center.

ISP prevent people from moving forward. Lieutenant Col Bradley says he's making a call and dialing the ICE facility, but also says people may be waiting a while.

This is a terrific protest idea

It's less than that. It's a hope the public can be activated by things that lost their power long ago.

This is, apparently, what an army of terrorists looks like

I did see on Twitter a common MAGA view is that Portland in some collective way "hid" the violence and fires and anarchy for a couple of days while Noem was in town

SpongeBob, Patrick, Pikachu, Cookie Monster and more all on scene at the Portland ICE facility.

Probably around 100 give or take total right now.

We need to consider whether this back and forth is a tactic in itself. They've done it before, and it's as disruptive as actual firing.

Seeing a lot of celebration of this as a win.

But at NIH we have seen this exact play before.

It looks like it is the Vought strategy -and to stop the lawless firings we have to see the bigger picture.

Also: if you work for ICE, even if you’re not one of the ones arresting citizens or tackling 15-year-olds or zip-tying kids together and segregating them by race, you’re part of the mechanism making it happen, and you should suffer long-term social and post-regime-change consequences.

Some weirdo on Twitter has been absolutely melting down for like 36 straight hours because I posted:

When this is over, do not forget what ICE did, and what ICE is. And do not make room for them in society. Make sure they know that they are, and will continue to be, reviled and beneath contempt.

We need to consider whether these back and forths are a tactic in themselves. They've done it before, and it's almost as good for their purposes as firing people.

Well yeah. One thing doesn't work out the way you wanted, so let's just give up.

That wasn't a special tribunal.
cherylrofer.bsky.social
Oh, you have read. Well, I have helped to modify the process for a refining plant.
cherylrofer.bsky.social
We really are going to need a special tribunal for these malefactors. It's the United States government they are destroying, and they must answer to the American people.

They are violating so many laws that a standard court of law won't be enough. And there are different levels of violation.

BREAKING: CDC is apparently reversing many of its layoffs. Letters seen by NPR indicate that many employees working with infectious diseases have had their RIFs revoked.

The Baltic States were independent and democratic between the world wars. Today they rate near the top of various democracy scales.
cherylrofer.bsky.social
There was also strong public support for those governments.

We've got work to do.
cherylrofer.bsky.social
People in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania had governments before those times. They were called soviets, but they were workable parliaments and executives. For about 20 years before the collapse, nationalists were infiltrating those governments. By 1991, they were ready to go.

These things don't just happen. You can't just say "General Strike next week" and have much more than a few hundred folk staying home.

Paul Wolfowitz thought that taking out Saddam Hussein would bring democracy to Iraq. He cited the Baltic States after the USSR collapsed.

Ronny Jackson, druglord extraordinaire, is now in Congress. We haven't heard much about the current White House physician.
