🚨I have a big announcement, everyone!!🚨

Today, I'm launching my newsletter: The Reengineer.

It’s about the surprising ways in which climate change is impacting technology, buildings and infrastructure – and how we can make those things more efficient, to slash emissions.

Also - for people with accountants, how will that work? Will you and your accountant both be filling this data five times a year?
chrisbaraniuk.com
Yes I was just looking into that - some seem to charge for certain businesses types even though they claim to be free. And is the data they process definitely private? These are the sort of questions I've seen about this.

Am wondering why there couldn't be an HMRC website you put figures into??

Been reading about Making Tax Digital. People are.... understandably unhappy about these changes.

Anyone following me also going to be affected at some point?

Just give these people the sex bots they dream of

Tiny changes replicated many times could make a difference on a global scale - that's often what I write about because, otherwise, this stuff is easy to miss.

Also, on percentages - the predictions reflect averages regarding a relatively small number of airports in Europe and a single type of plane. It's very much a snapshot at best, which is a fair point. I'm also interested in the effects re: turbulence and equipment longevity.

Hello - it's not my research! My article draws attention to it / discusses the possibility. As you see I've also mentioned the fact that these are predictions and may be modified by many other factors; and that other research finds a smaller effect. But helpful to think about these things IMO.

A roar of engines overhead. Awake again. “The planes never used to be so loud round here,” a troubled sleeper may reflect in the year 2050. Aircraft noise may eventually afflict thousands more people who live near airports – because of climate change.

Noisier take-offs, engine wear – planes are flying straight into climate change
Emissions-spewing aircraft are far from immune to global warming

Watching Papillon via streaming with occasional ad breaks.

It is QUITE jarring during the solitary confinement scene to switch from Steve McQueen getting his already meagre rations reduced by half to this:

DID SOMEBODY SAY... JUST EAT!!?

A bit punky, no?

Or what about

A fair point! Thank you for adding your perspective. Is AI something you see as potentially helpful for you? (This is a genuine Q!)

The truth is, technology peaked a while ago in terms of handling everyday tasks. We don't really need to go faster / more automated in many of these areas now, IMO.

And this is a big reason, though not the only one, why retro tech is so popular again.

every single tech idea is like “soon our robots will be capable of playing catch with your kid, freeing you up to spend more time working on your employers’ spreadsheets”

Last harvest basket of the season. Still plenty of swede, parsnip, carrot and beetroot to pull up over the next couple of months, though.
A photo of a harvest basket containing some shallots, tomatoes, red and green chillies.

Richard Briers said about as much - though not in the same terms - about the character.

They did well to carry on after that (correct but deflating) offside decision.

I could spend hours looking at digitised images from the @nlireland.bsky.social Lawrence Collection. What an incredible visual repository of 19th-c Ireland.
The Quays on the northside of Cork looking east, with the Shandon Bell in background. Two boys, one with a cap and a barefoot leg straddling the Quay wall, the other in a bowler hat looking into the River Lee. Entitled 'Paddys Market', in Cork. An image with many people milling about, lots of produce in the foreground, furniture, baskets. A shawled woman looking back toward the camera with what look like mounds of cabbages stacked in the foreground and wicker baskets.
