Forests are reorganizing in their composition and structure in response to climate change - will they be able to maintain their carbon?
Turns out: yes - they even sequestered more carbon than resilient forests!

Central Europe has seen unprecedented forest disturbances recently, but how are forests recovering? We surveyed disturbance hotspots in 10 countries 3-5 years after disturbance, finding ample tree regeneration and no signs of forest loss (median 4750 stems/ha), but... 1/2 doi.org/10.1111/gcb....

Yesterday, our PhDs visited the Ε umava National Park, the Czech neighbor to our Bayerischer Wald NP πŸ‡¨πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ
Together they cover an impressive area of >900 km² fittingly dubbed "borderless wilderness" - a great reminder of the privilege of getting to do "borderless science" in a "borderless team"! 🏞️

I’m really concerned about early career scientists using generative AI in writing, because writing is how we think and reflect. There’s almost nothing *more* human than that, and to give that gift away to a machine is almost unconscionable to me

Really interesting study, thank you! I was not familiar with discount rates before so it was very interesting to learn about them here in the context of forest restoration. And I'm glad that the results suggest that individuals extend compassion to future generations!
