In a school where the behaviour culture is strong and behaviour leadership is everywhere, a good teacher can be an excellent teacher. In a school where it's absent, a good teacher will have to fight just to remain good, and it will probably burn them out in the process.

Where's my phone, asks Jeff.
In my bag, says Elaine.
Where's your bag, he asks.
Next to the suitcase, she says.
Where's the suitcase, he says.
Which one, she says.
The one next to your bag, he says.
In there, she says.
Where, he says.
There, she shouts.

Christ on earth.
Jeff and Elaine are back 🙌
The door opens. Christ, she spits.
And how are you Elaine, I beam.
Can you grab these pillows, shouts Jeff.
It was a nightmare, she barges past me.
What happened, I ask.
Landslip near Llandovery, he says.
You've just boggled my brain 🥴

Yesterday, Ofsted’s chief inspector posed a question:

“190 days of children going in out of 365. I think the question should be is that long enough?”

Today, teachers have answered that question…

@teachertapp.bsky.social
I was coming here to post the same thing! Very very little support for the idea.

I also wonder how they would propose to fund an increase in the number of school days...
As far as I'm aware, teachers and many support staff are not paid for the holidays, so they would have to increase salaries!
True. I also think there is pressure that some leaders feel to 'have impact asap' so they streamline/short-cut to telling staff what to do with a brief explanation of the why but less time for in depth understanding.

Do you think this is just a reality of the competing pressures of teaching though?
I agree.
I have seen many use cognitive science well, where there has been time for staff to develop an understanding and plan what this will look like in their classroom.
But where leaders or teachers haven't had time (been given time?) to really think about it, it can all become very tick-boxy.

We have a problem: Good cognitive science is meeting rushed implementation. 🧵 #EduSky

1/7 On one side, we have robust research about how learning happens. This is brilliant - we're finally understanding the mechanics of learning at a deeper level.
