There's 25 train operators across the UK. Those in N Ireland, Scotland & Wales are publicly owned (4).

In England, the DfT is responsible for 14 contracts, of which 7 are now in public ownership (with 2 more next year).

Amazed this is still going ahead - basic and obvious problem is that essentially everything local government does now is for the poor. You can’t move it around without really hurting poor people somewhere!
