Thinking about Rome again?! Also check out our lovely friends over at the Classical Association classicalassociation.org (they don't seem to be on Bluesky!) for more resources and events on all things Roman, Greek and Egyptian!
Image shows Dr Louise O'Brien, an Egyptologist at the University of Liverpool, sitting in front of a lot of academic books, to advertise the Classical Association's podcast featuring Experts in Residence. The topmost QR code links to the podcast, the lower one to more information on University Archaeology Day on 27/10/25 at the British Library.

Silver bust of #Roman Empress Livia 59BC-AD29, found on shore at Herculaneum, likely taken by fugitive from AD79 eruption.
Divorced 1st husband Nero.
2nd, Octavius, became Emperor Augustus.
A key figure - but vile schemer or faithful adviser?
Said to love Prosecco.🥂

This is a huge moment in linear broadcast TV. When I began my TV career in 2005, even history documentaries were expected to get 2 million viewers

Last month, something unusual happened in TV - none of the main channels got a million viewers at 9pm. The bigger problem was it happened a 2nd & 3rd time soon after.

Another unwelcome landmark for linear TV & our shrinking shared TV experience.

Does it matter?

‘It was a binding experience’: TV producers mourn decline of hot 9pm slot
UK broadcasters used to rely on big audiences at 9pm, but as viewing habits change, figures are falling below the 1m mark

Strange what survives. Found this yesterday, memento of Staffordshire County Youth orchestra trip (playing viola).
Orange luggage label 'Adult Education Study Tours' outward trip with flight no, destination Leningrad, holiday address Palace of Youth Hotel, and my name.

My friend Sascha is a professional musician and he's lost a viola bow on the way to Heathrow. Please signal boost to help him get it back.
Lost viola bow on the way from Honor Oak Station to Heathrow Terminal 2. The bow slid from its bow case somewhere along the way, possibly on the train. TFL contacted already.
It weighs 68.2 grams and has got a stamped DODD next to the frog. If any info on this, please pm me.

I can't help but be pleased by the reclamation of the frog as an anti-fascist symbol.

Today I have mostly been searching online for individual book chapters (in this case conference papers) as a substitute for an academic book costing over 100quid. I got most of them.

Having these means I don't always have to go to a research library.

Dad’s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending it’s their own fault. So I hope Kemi’s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.

I have discovered that women are more than capable of undertaking any task which requires physical strength or of learning any discipline which requires discernment and intelligence. Books which say otherwise were definitely not written by women.
