Yup. Didn't happen. And honestly, if you'd received homophobic harassment and abuse in a bar, why *wouldn't* you be naming the bar where it happened, if only to make sure that no other queer person would have to go through the same thing at their hands?
The curiosity was killing me. The guy said he found the ad on Instagram and that, as of today, the post is still up. So I spent an hour or so on a spreadsheet of every single bar, pub, or club I could find in Salt Lake City, almost 100.

None of them posted it

Because if you find yourself believing a fake story and getting angry at selective comments with no engagement designed to present a societal problem, all you’re doing is wasting your emotional energy and possibly perpetuating hatred through ignorance

Although I truly believe there are some books that only feel right when read as a mass-market paperback with brittle yellowing pages that are only staying together out of apathy.

I think the worst we can accuse him of is turning his casebook into inspirational parables for a very specific audience. The other week I was out running, thinking about that Sacks piece, and I came up with "Chicken Soup for the New Yorker Reader's Soul". Still quite pleased with it.

Sorry, but people REALLY need to get better at figuring out when stories that neatly confirm all their a prioris might be bullshit.
Kinda surprised to see so many people uncritically sharing this story in which
- non gay bar in Salt Lake City hosts a Heated Rivalry watch party on a random Thursday, two weeks after the season finale
- there’s somehow only one man in this non gay bar on this random Thursday night for this party

As much as I WANT this to be a magic portal to a happier world, it's not.

Captured on the slopes of an Austrian ski resort, it's a LIGHT PILLAR, an optical phenomenon created by the alignment of hexagonal ice crystals reflecting a strong light source in a way that creates the illusion of a pillar.

given that fine arts consumption is in decline, this is also necessary for things from theater to classical music to survive
Mamdani is here describing a vision of working-class consumerism that resonates with the 19th century theorists of the “living wage” and shorter hours movements, whom I wrote about in my first book. “Eight Hours for What Will,” very much included the arts, education, and pleasure.

Quick! Don’t read that article about that poor young fellow wanting a child with his AI girlfriend. Read this, by Louis MacNiece. Here’s a man who knew how to relish life with a glorious, complex, messy being of flesh and contradictions.
My favourite love poem.

Excellent thread
Every ICE agent I’ve seen has been a doughy insecure mess who needs to cosplay soldier to feel strong. If that’s what you think is “physically confident” or “masculine,” woo boy do we have some issues.
That actually kind of sounds like your fantasy, Naomi.
