Can someone please tell me why no media are asking about the NW pipeline within the context of a climate crisis? Did we all just throw the reality out the window because Trump did? It's infuriating that the line of questioning is back to nationally skewed polling and bullshit economics. Ugh #bcpoli

Peace is more than an absence of war!

Welcoming today’s ceasefire in #Gaza, Greenpeace calls for humanitarian organisations to be given unrestricted access to deliver aid in the face of famine and genocide.

This is b/c of section 5(1.1) of the Building Canada Act, introduced by the BQ at 3rd reading. I haven’t had time, but an intrepid reporter might want to go through the House Transportation Committee’s report & Hansard for the votes. #cdnpoli #ableg

Very important paper by @gregorsemieniuk.bsky.social that shows, as I have argued, that tax policy is climate policy. We cannot phaseout #fossilfuels without attacking their wealth.

Please enjoy this executive at one of America's biggest gas companies openly admitting that expanding supply leads to increased demand for fossil fuels

He is not wrong: frantic expansion of fossil fuel supply worsens climate change. Tax it, cut subsidies, wind it down

1. Before anyone gets too excited about (another) Keystone XL revival, this looks like an attempt to curry favour with Trump that will go nowhere. The company behind KXL (TC Energy spin-off South Bow) tried to relaunch it earlier this year...

4. But why is our Elbows-Up Prime Minister trying to embed us further into the U.S. fossil fuel system, which is a big part of the political machine behind Trump-ism?
We should be building a renewable energy economy to get off the toxic politics, economics and ecology associated with Big Oil.

Yet another great primer on industrial carbon pricing from @climateinstitute.bsky.social.

It's Canada's potentially most impactful climate policy, but it's hanging by a thread as provinces have gamed and, increasingly, flaunted the federal carbon pricing benchmark.

Ball's in the feds' court.
climateinstitute.bsky.social
Canada’s industrial carbon pricing systems are meant to slash emissions and reward low-carbon innovation. But right now, they’re falling short due to poor design.
We took a closer look at what’s holding these systems back. ⬇️

Meanwhile, Enbridge’s CEO just called again (during a speech in Toronto) for industrial pricing to end, which is another reminder that the oil and gas industry is not serious about carbon capture, and Carney will need to play hardball if he is.

I want to explain this a bit b/c it’s important. When the Building Canada Act (then C-5) was introduced, it required the feds to consult w/ the provinces re: PONIs (s 5(7)). But the Act was amended at 3rd reading by the Transportation Committee. Section 5(1.1) was added by the Bloc Québécois. 1/n
watershedlab.bsky.social
Reminder that Bill C-5 REQUIRES consent of the province or territory in which the project is to be built. I doubt BC will be onboard with this pipeline proposal.

H/t to @molszyns.bsky.social for this tidbit.

Publication and consent of province or territory
(1.‍1) Before adding the name of a project to Schedule 1, the Governor in Council must cause a notice of 30 days, that includes the name and description of the project, to be published in the Canada Gazette and must consult with the government of the province or territory in which the project will be carried out, and obtain its written consent if the project falls within areas of exclusive provincial or territorial jurisdiction.
