Have you seen any other Perkins? I feel like slow mood is kind of his thing, and it either works for people or doesn't. I really dug The Blackcoat's Daughter and Longlegs both, and both are pure mood, and wonky plots at best. Unsure how this one is.

I was coming into the replies to recommend this. I’ve loved all three of this books, but Evelyn Hardcastle is incredible. So ambitious and compelling, with a great mystery and an absurd degree of difficulty.
