A collection of #autumnleaves to brighten your day! Today’s colour is red! A mix of native and non-native.
Another great photo by @scottdenkers.bsky.social from our August trip to the #pantanal in #brazil #birdsofbrazil #birdwatching #guiracuckoo
This eccentric-looking guira cuckoo was spotted on our recent trip to Brazil. Despite their name, they build nests and don't lay eggs in other species' nests like old world cuckoos. They also don't have the archetypical call of the common cuckoos of Europe, but have a more shrill, hawk-like, call. 🪶
So true!
Dear Canada and Blue Jays: that was one of the best World Series ever. I wish you could have won too.
Yesterday was a glorious fall day with grandchildren! #crossroadspark #granddaughter #gymnast

Letters Home: Henry Smith
Henry served in France during the First World War and in this letter, tells his wife about his experiences at the front. Sadly, he died only weeks later.

My DH is a great photographer!
Looking for something Halloween-ish and came across this image taken from the kitchen window a couple of years ago. Missing is the witch flying on her broomstick!

Title: Moon Over Qemqemó (a.k.a. Mt. Ogilvie in southern B.C., Canada).

The #othellotunnels or #quintettetunnels aren’t spooky, but they are legendary! Who would consider building a series of tunnels and trestles in a rocky canyon of the #coquihallariver? Shakespeare fan and Engineer Andrew McCullough did in 1914. The #kettlevalleyrailroad used this route until 1956.
As an immigrant to Canada, I’m still catching up on #canadianhistory. Thanks, Craig Baird for all you do! @cdnhistoryehx.bsky.social
Martha Black was pregnant, on her way to the Klondike, when her husband left her.
She continued on herself, built a life and thriving business in Dawson City, became a celebrated naturalist and later a Member of Parliament.
This is the story of this amazing woman.

Took more photos of the #pineconemushroom before I left the suburban backyard and returned home to small-town #hopebc because I found out it was a #toothedfungus! More photos ensued. And its other names are great: #conetooth and #earpickfungus
DH has shared a photo from our August birding trip to Brazil! #owl #pygmyowl #ferruginouspygmyowl #pantanal #pantanalbirding
With a glare like that I'm glad I'm not a small bird or other critter! This ferruginous pygmy-owl is a small predator with a big appetite and like its northern cousin, can actually take down prey over twice its size. Central Brazil on a recent trip with @connielavon.bsky.social. #brazilbirding 🪶🌿🦉
Lovely! I remember intense sunsets from my childhood growing up (part-time) around Safford. Sunsets and thunderstorms.
My kids inform me corduroy is making a comeback. I am ready!
Big decision for @scottdenkers.bsky.social and I! We now have a 2025 #volkswagen #idbuzz and I love it! Photos 1 & 2 by Scott. I drove a VW van in the 1980s and this is a world away from that experience! Looking forward to our first road trip! #Idbuzz1stedition
Last chance to bloom for another year! This #hollyhock and all of my hollyhocks struggled mightily this year with a bad case of hollyhock weevils. So glad to see it bloom so late in the year. Persevere!!!
I raised my kids in Seattle so it has always been #SeattleMariners for us. They came so close this year and it was a hard fought championship. Now I’m rooting for the #bluejays because I want my team to have been beaten by the best!
So grateful for all the pilots out there who keep passengers safe every day! Well sung, Captain Dave Hadfield!
If you've ever flown across the Atlantic, you should listen to this song: youtu.be/p7fRUMjoPrA.
Brother Dave captures the captains' feelings so well; I think it's his best. hadfield.ca/music/
