I'm grateful for @counciloravalos.bsky.social leadership and that of her co-sponsors @councilorepg.bsky.social , @councilortkl.bsky.social, and @councilorclark.bsky.social in meeting the moment. There should be no question in the minds of Portlanders where their city stands against Trumpism.

Next week City Council will hear a pair of legislation that formally denounces the Trump Administration's attempt to terrorize our city with militarized units, while codifying Sanctuary City status protections. Portlanders have been waiting for a formal expression of City's Council will on this.

I know it feels pretty scary right now, but Trump is increasingly unmoored and desperate. That’s an indication of weakness, not strength. We are the ones with strength. The chicken guy has a sign that reads, “We will outlast Trump” and he’s right.

Portlanders will not be cowed by this administration. When undignitaries like Kristi Noem visit for their photo ops and get mocked by people in animal costumes it’s because that’s the level of respect they deserve. Doing the work of mass deportation is the least honorable thing a person can do.

I'm calling on my Federal Delegation to use every tool at their disposal to secure the release of these Portlanders, and to join me in condemning the criminalization of humanitarian aid. The connection to genocide in Gaza by Isreal and militarization on the streets of Portland is not lost on me.

Judge: That's what I'll do. Prohibit federalization or deployment of any NG troops into Oregon. For all reasons in prior opinion. Deployment of federalized military is ultra vires and contrary to law, violating Title 10, section 12406. I also find it's likely that defendants violate 10th Amendment.
