A let out a long cackle until I aspirated my coffee as I took down the internet because of a botched update of my OpenWRT router this morning

I’m working the phones for KDLL’s fall membership drive this morning! Call 907-513-1996 and support local news on the Kenai Peninsula!
A Facebook post from KDLL 91.9 FM reads “It’s early o’ clock on a Saturday morning but it’s still a beautiful day to support your local non-profit public radio station! It’s day 3 of our fall membership drive and we’re still working to make up as much as we can of the loss of $140,000 in federal funding this year. You can donate by calling 907-513-1996 or visiting kdll.org to help us keep local programming and local news on the air!

Right now, your donation can go even farther, because we’re looking for 8 public radio heroes to take advantage of a donation challenger from our favorite donor, A. Nonymous, who wants to match the first 8 people who donate $500 with another $500. Double your money by calling 907-513-1996!”

There’s also a fun photo of KDLL board president Shaylon Cochran with a cup of coffee and a microphone.

I don’t have a sense of what the capital vs. operating budget looks like but I can only hope we don’t have to go to voters to pay for basic operations of things like the pools

On the League of Women Voters forum hosted by KTOO, Nano Brooks had no real answer for how he’d go about making up for the lost revenue other than going to voters for bond referendums.

Bug babies sleeping in a big bubble bed
Spittlebug nymph at joint of Cosmo stem. A mass of tiny bubbles, forming a teardrop shape with clear water bottom, it does look a bit like spittle but also pretty imo Closer shot, you can see the individual bubbles better, it's foamy, made by a bug. There's a black spec but I don't think it's related, just stuck there. There's also some out of focus specs because I just bought this camera used and the sensor cleaning tools aren't here yet l

CHICAGO: Trump's lawless goons (ICE) make a U-turn and smash into a woman's car, then proceed to arrest her by dragging her out of the vehicle.

Listen, Billy Batts refers to Tommy’s shine box. That’s just gangster speak for finding ones’s smile and charm so we can have a reset.

I go back and forth between beard and clean shaven at least once per year. Nice mixing it up.

I usually only keep a 'stache around for a few days when going full beard to clean shaven. The 70's cop mustache doesn't really work for me, and I've never had the discipline/fortitude to get a good handlebar thing going on.

The first I’ve heard of “Maritime Alaska”. Everyone here seems to delineate it up into SE and South Central.

This is the most accurate depiction of the Midwest to date. Wichita has always felt like the last Midwest city while also being the first plains city.

This stinks much like the Ellie Rubenstein story. Crum was on the board of the Permanent Fund Corporation during this time, correct? alaskapublic.org/news/2024-07...

Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.
(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.

Something you don't see everyday: lacewing eggs laid on a spider silk strand
A sturdy structural spider silk strand, guy wire type, going from some blurry dogweed leaves to something out of frame. In the center is a clutch of 23 lacewing eggs. They look sort of like if chicken eggs were the size of a pinhead, white but more oblong, and each suspended away from the silk by its own extremely fine but rigid lacewing provided support thread. From a distance they look like caught specs of dust Up close, some lacewing eggs blurred, some glowing from over exposure, some in sharp focus, their support threads glinting tiny lens flares in direct sunlight. There also appears to be even finer stranding between them, maybe something the lacewings add to provide overall stability. They look almost like something you'd find in the center of a flower. It's magic.

Miller’s apparent elevation to shadow president and his seeming intent to declare an end to the constitutional order would, in any other administration, be treated as a executive branch meltdown that was immensely embarrassing for the president and requiring Miller’s immediate removal
