There is a macabre irony in the fact that chuds mystify japan and asian women but truly do not want them to actually look asian

Gamers’ brains are so cooked dude. The woman on the right is gorgeous and beautiful. Straight gamer men literally can’t find normal women attractive anymore.

I didn't know this (so thank you), but it's the least surprising news I've heard in a while. One of those things where you're like "Oh. Hmmm. Well ... that tracks."

This is worth taking, especially if you are a web developer who's not a white cishet male who lives in the US (but still worth taking even then). They're definitely looking to broaden their survey base!

I have no idea if this is at all in the plans and don't expect you to tell me, but I've been waiting for Fortuna to turn on that jackass since like the first panel she showed up in.

That's interesting because losing context seems to still be a fairly big problem for people on larger code bases. I don't doubt it's still improving via the agent approach (although that approach is likely limited in how much it can actually scale).

Interesting. I dunno if you watched the video I linked but one of the complaints is that you do still have to monitor everything, and also it's just not very enjoyable for your job to basically be "mentoring a junior developer who never improves" 😄

I spent like three years mailing the government about this so it's nice to see that it had the exact impact that every single person mailing the government about it told them it would have.

Because I mostly don't drink caffeine, every few years I'm like, "maybe I'll try rooibos" and every few years I'm like, "I really don't like rooibos."

This video echoes my experience with vibe coding. I know people who swear by it, have had good discussions with them, but for me it so far has not worked well at all. I also identify strongly with the "I *like* programming" part of the video, because I like programming!

Such a good take on Vibe Coding: www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZUk...
I believe too many people treat AI as the new way of coding but it's just a tool that should be adapted to your skill set. If you are an expert on a specific topic, don't expect it to take better choices than you (at least yet).
AI Coding Sucks
AI coding tools suck and are not at all what was promised. I'm done. 00:00 - intro 00:15 - i used to enjoy programming 01:05 - why did I become a programmer 01:55 - AI / LLMs are not…

And for the record, despite my concerns, I use LLMs every day. My company pays for a copilot subscription, and I use it. I feel not-great about it, due to said ethical and environmental concerns. I'm trying to figure out how to mitigate that. Not-using it isn't an option - its expected of us.
cwbuecheler.com
The only tech people I know who seem to have any concerns about those aspects are personal friends. No one I work with, no one I meet an conferences, etc. It just isn't discussed at all. If someone has a concern, it is almost exclusively "will this take my job?" or "will the code be bad?"
cwbuecheler.com
A thing I find interesting is that zero percent of the people I've talked to in web dev over the last two years have any qualms about the ethics or environmental impact of LLMs. It never, ever comes up. And if I do bring it up, I get perplexed looks, like I'm speaking a foreign language.

I work with devs from Costa Rica, and need to do mental calculations to convert their temps. I found an easy cheat sheet! Starting at 4C you can reverse the numbers and it's the approximate F, and it works adding 12C to every one:

(0)4C = 40F
16C = 61F
28C = 82F
40C = (1)04F

please don't argue with me that 10 is "not that cold" or "25 is not that hot" ... I grew up in a place where -25 C and 34 C days were not uncommon. But it doesn't matter. Once you get past cold or hot, it's just cold or hot. I'm wearing the same shit, I'm just going "fuck, it's COLD/HOT!" louder.
cwbuecheler.com
Been living in France and using the 24h clock on my devices for 15 months and I still convert the time back to 12h in my head every single time I look at it.

Celcius is easier because 10 is cold, 15 is cool, 20 is warm, and 25 is hot. Everything else doesn't matter.

This is one of the many arguments for open borders made by @zachweinersmith.bsky.social and Bryan Caplan in their excellent graphic novel titled, well, "Open Borders." Extremely worth a read. Absolutely convinced me that fully open borders are in every country's best interests.

I should note that this is among the many reasons I will never be asked to write a Star Wars film.

Nothing says "connecting with today's kids" like advocating incest while dressing and grooming one's self like a 1950s newspaper reporter who also has a basement full of human remains.

If I was for some reason asked to write a Star Wars film I would set it no fewer than 1000 years after the sequel trilogy. It would feature absolutely no character you've ever heard of before, and the only mentions of Luke or Vader or Rey would be small historical references, half legend.

With the Yankees eliminated (🎉) I'm now playing with house money in the MLB playoffs ... even the Dodgers are OK because of Shohei and Mookie. Seattle / Milwaukee is the obvious top choice but I have to shout out the Toronto fans who've been really great in everything I've seen (team's good, too!)

Yeah, I got it right after I hit send. Fortunately it's funny either way!
