A thing that's very, VERY hard for most Europeans to wrap their heads around is: yes, a significant portion of Americans truly believe that it is acceptable for a police or federal officer to arbitrarily end someone's life for disobeying a command. It's deeply entrenched in American culture.

How have I lived in France for 18 months, had all of my computers set to the 24h clock for that entire time, and still have to do math every single goddamn time I look at it in order to figure out what time it actually is?

American freedom:

Gov: "You want freedom don't you?"

Me: "Yes!"

Gov: "Like the freedom to found a company with no regulations or consumer protections?

Me: "Uh, I don't. . .

Gov: "And we will protect your business from citizens with active oppression?"

Me: "You're not talking to me, are you."

My representative should be on tv showing clips of this shit to everyone every fucking night until this bullshit ends. We are being fucking abandoned by our state and federal representatives.
Today at 34 & Park in Minneapolis, a woman tried to drive down the street where a protest had broken out in front of a home ICE was raiding, saying she had a doctor apt to get to. ICE agents busted out her windows, cut off her seatbelt, and pulled her out before arresting her.

Getting some mixed messages, here, Experian ...

(not that I'm worried, I'm on like a zillion free credit monitoring services thanks to endless security breaches. Hooray, companies being bad at infosec!)

My favorite thing about our new world where every app's pricing is like "you get everything on the free tier and the paying tiers just give you AI credits" is that I never have to pay for anything because I don't care about AI credits.

The reason is of course that once you take the existence of Ronald Reagan into account, it becomes quite evident that cannibalistic vine monsters wanting to destroy the world is just the lesser of two evils here
I know Stranger Things presents 1980s politics through a weird mishmash of symbols and signs: big bad government but no mention of Reagan, the working poor but no mention of Reagan, unhinged cold war white elephants but no mention of Reagan, the satanic panic but no mention of Reagan, homophobia but

#Helsinki achieved zero road deaths in a year—without autonomous vehicles on its streets.

They did it through road diets, car-free zones, and 30 km/h speed limits.

Not by flooding the streets with robotaxis. (Waymo isn't allowed in #Finland.)

To really save lives...

A funny thing about living in CET but following mostly people in EST-PST is that every day I can see people waking up, checking their phones, and posting/reposting a few things. There's a few folks who I think I could reliably guess their alarm times at this point.

I wonder if when advocates spoke about democratization, if they meant “freedom to do non-consensual porn every minute” 💀

In all seriousness this is absolutely insane! It needs to be criminalized and regulated asap! Heck shut it down!

This whole thing is untenable!

It's interesting to see companies slowly coming back around to the idea that you need to sell things people want, rather than selling things you *tell* them they should want.

Many people do want LLMs in their life in one form or another. Very, very few want a PC powered by them.
