Let’s do this Bluesky!

Hi, I’m Karla Ortiz! I’m an artist in San Francisco. I work in films, games, MtG, books, fine art, and so on!

In my free time I advocate for artists livelihoods and rights. I’m also a plaintiff in a class action lawsuit against GenAi companies (Andersen v Stability).

Hi 👋
P.S it's FRIEREN.. I wrote Fieren..

I'm cursed. I think I'm cursed to typo forever. Like I TRY to catch them but they just frolic right in front of my face and I miss them, every single time... I'm cursed I swear!

Anyway, have fun drawing, I'll be over here trying to improve my dang spelling 💀

Form just gets slightly darker there so it can still work even when lack of strong shadows, like in an overcast day.

Only time i could see it being flat and making the whole thing look like a thumb would be a a strong light hitting the neck, the jaw and face equally. Rough time there lol

Go forth Ryan! Rooting for you too!

Lastly, when in doubt, dont be afraid of getting references, or using 3D models to figure it out! @magicposerapp is brilliant for this! :D

Go get em, and keep at it! 🙌🙌🙌

And if you want a bit on how, it's about keeping the underlying drawing in perspective!

Breaking it down from a simple mannikin frame, to then building a drawing on to it, then refine to a render.

With a LOT of tweaking as you go to make the shape feel just right!

Late, but I wanted to jump in on this trend. While I love Fieren, I am deeply inspired by how brave this person was! They went for the hard thing, were curious, made us all rejoice and draw together!

It makes me so happy to see folks gain that artistic curiosity!

So go forth! Rooting for you! 💖

Update:
Zach has done a great job bringing a lot of resources, sample scripts, etc on how to call your senators AND representatives to urge them to vote NO on the AI moratorium in the NDAA!

Check em out!

Btw I thought at first, it was only Senators we needed to call. Please call your representatives too!
Like some kind of zombie cockroach, THE BAN ON STATE AI REGULATIONS IS BACK FROM THE DEAD!! 🪦

Please call your senators and rep NOW and tell them no state AI regulation ban!! A cheat sheet of who to call, scripts of what to say here: tinyurl.com/msa69nkv

Thank you!

Pro tips : when you call, be sure to give them your zip code. It helps them keep track of constituent sentiment!

And if you talk to a staffer (which is better than leaving a message) be ultra nice to them, and just share your concerns in a human way!! You got this 🙌🙌🙌
November 19, 2025 at 7:45 PM
If you need a quick sample of what to say you can follow this script I wrote.

However I’m not the best of writers so feel free to change this however you best see fit!

Anyway call now!!!

🚨 Yet again Ted Cruz and Steve Scalise are trying to sneak in a moratorium on state GenAi legislation.

If passed states can no longer enact laws for transparency, child safety, privacy, environmental protection etc.

We got 3 days to stop this. Call now!

Now I’m feeling myself enter a new stage of creativity, joy and excitement for new paintings, new stories and new endeavors.

I haven’t felt this way in a while, and this movie is one major factor of it. So if you need something beautiful to hold on to go see it!! 💖

After seeing Frankenstein
last week I left the theater with the artistic joy and spark that you sometimes feel at the bottom of your sternum.

I went home and sketched these from imagination, dreams and aspirations. something I haven’t done in a while. So thank you @realgdt.bsky.social
Feels good to let go and just draw late into the night.

Digital sketches mostly from memory and a lot of soulful songs to accompany it.

In an era of strife, of tech trying to insidiously take away our love and wonder for the arts, this film—a masterclass of human artistry— reminds us that stories, arts and craftsmanship can soothe, heal and motivate the human soul.

I did not know I was in a rut, until I saw it.
November 16, 2025 at 10:44 PM
Frankenstein was the fuel I did not know I desperately needed. Inspiring, hopeful and loving of the many brilliant crafts that went to passionately make this movie.

A story teller’s dream.

@realgdt.bsky.social and crew have truly created a beautifully haunting and unforgettable film!

Glad to see Polygon cover the resistance of game developers to generative AI--and to be able to speak briefly to one of the greatest dangers of this entire thing.

Gen AI doubles down on making MORE SPACE for production issues that *already make games worse.*

We don’t use generative AI at Strange Scaffold and I can confirm that a *lot* of other studios are not—whether indie or AAA.

Get outta here with this normalization bullshit.
November 12, 2025 at 3:25 AM
Thank you! And unfortunately no.

As much as I enjoyed streaming it became really difficult to do while also working full time 😭
