I cannot imagine being this nostalgic for the most recent iteration of Archer Avenue. Bustling business corridor but unsafe and inadequate for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers.

I hope New Yorkers will challenge Mamdani about this. Too often, people feel they need to be absolutely for or against a politician — ignoring their missteps or throwing them out with the bathwater. You can like and/or believe in someone and still challenge them to deliver on their promises.

"When she goes to bed each night, she has a hard time falling asleep without him. “I am always in fear. But if we let fear take us over, we are giving victory to the president,” she said."

US Citizenship & Immigration Services is an agency most Americans rarely hear about. It administers the *legal* immigration system. Under Trump, the agency has turned into an enforcement tool in service of the broader crackdown. My latest @newyorker.com: www.newyorker.com/news/annals-...
How Legal Immigration Became a Deportation Trap
Under Trump, the Homeland Security agency responsible for processing visas and green cards has become a site for easy arrests.

The Chicago area is under a fire watch Wednesday due to unseasonably warm weather, low air moisture and gusty winds, according to the National Weather Service. Residents are cautioned against burning yard waste and should take extra care when disposing of burning materials.

So many stories coming to light about the treatment of Latinos and other immigrants in the last few months. I am always horrified to hear of new details of detainees at Broadview processing center in Chicago, especially during the months of Operation Midway Blitz.
The horror stories rolling in from Minnesota are just the tip of the iceberg. This 20-year-old, who's lawfully present in the country, was arrested for being Latino, then jailed in a filthy cell where he couldn't even sit down. 18 days of illegal detention. democracyforward.org/wp-content/u...

This reminds me of strategies I heard about in Chicago in the fall when residents were detained by ICE through deception. One was lured with a phone call about a prize and another lured by supposed scrap metal available for pickup.
CCTV footage appears to show DHS agents posing as people having car trouble in order to lure a target out of his house before arresting them. The target comes out and starts helping them before 3 vehicles surround the scene. The car "experiencing" trouble then drives off with them.
