Happening now: a delegation with the faith group Coalition for Spiritual and Public Leadership has gathered outside the Broadview, IL ICE facility.

Those waiting to offer Ash Wednesday ashes and communion to those inside the facility have been joined by others for a small prayer service.

I cannot imagine being this nostalgic for the most recent iteration of Archer Avenue. Bustling business corridor but unsafe and inadequate for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers.

I hope New Yorkers will challenge Mamdani about this. Too often, people feel they need to be absolutely for or against a politician — ignoring their missteps or throwing them out with the bathwater. You can like and/or believe in someone and still challenge them to deliver on their promises.

So many stories coming to light about the treatment of Latinos and other immigrants in the last few months. I am always horrified to hear of new details of detainees at Broadview processing center in Chicago, especially during the months of Operation Midway Blitz.
The horror stories rolling in from Minnesota are just the tip of the iceberg. This 20-year-old, who's lawfully present in the country, was arrested for being Latino, then jailed in a filthy cell where he couldn't even sit down. 18 days of illegal detention. democracyforward.org/wp-content/u...
