Everyone needs to learn this method of sharing info.
Infographic that shows the strategy of SALUTE for sharing accurate information especially during suspected ICE activity. To read more Google SALUTE and there are several resources to break down the logic.

Short breakdown

S - size/strength, A - actions/activity, L - location & direction, U - uniform/clothes, T - time & date of observation, E - equipment/weapons

That’s not the elementary school in question btw. That’s in another part of the west loop. It’s been determined there is a school down the block. But inaccurate names etc makes it easy to question the info/confused and also assume it’s a whole other school.

Thank you! Seen this a few times today. The original I saw was from inside the UIC building. There were several angles captured.

Long statement but worth the read!

Many people may know this incident as one gone viral throughout the internet as one at West Loop Elementary. There is an elementary school down the block and seems many parents were in a pick up line behind the UIC building.

Mexican Students de Aztlán at UIC released a statement about the incident behind the Student Services Building at UIC at Racine and Congress where two women were detained by ICE yesterday. They have been released but students are demanding UIC & UICPD address this & how they will protect students.
On October 8th, 2025 at around 2:50PM, two women were violently detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) outside of UIC's Student Services Building. (SSB) Students inside of SSB were quick to record the kidnapping and report it to the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) and the University of Illinois Chicago Police Department(UICPD). First and foremost, MeSA would like to extend our deepest condolences to the two women detained, the friends and family of the women detained, as well as any bystanders who had to witness the traumatizing act of brutal police force upon another person. The two women have since been released, but the disgusting display of violence can never be erased. It would be a complete understatement to say that we are appalled by the abhorrent events in this city. ICE's deportations and militarized actions have had irreparable effects on us as a community. We are livid, we are exhausted, we are traumatized, we are scared, we are heartbroken. As a community, we have been watching ICE vigilantly and doing everything in our power to keep each other informed. After yesterday's events, it was not UICPD or UIC Administration keeping the community informed. It was not the UICPD or UIC Administration sending out statements, warning people to stay safe. It was Latine students. It was Latine professors. It was the very same people who were most vulnerable and afraid during these times, taking initiative to protect their own community. UIC, this is NOT allyship. This is NOT solidarity. This is not "serving Hispanics", which is a label (Hispanic Serving Institute) that UIC very proudly claims every year, louder than ever during Latine Heritage Month. We are more, so much more than the salsa bailes that the university organizes; we are more than a tianguis or an extracurricular social event. We are more than a tokenized identity used so equally to feign representation….

UIC students led a protest today against the ICE arrests behind a UIC building at Congress and Racine yesterday, a short distance also from an elementary school on Loomis.

Yes this is a good way to put it. The fact that the place was “wrong” made me skeptical of it in general. That’s why details matter. Clear details helps us trust info.

My friend who’s lived in Belmont Cragin for a long time was telling me how he saw a video of a street vendor taken on Division and Laramie. He’s been seeing this vendor for many years.
lyndab08.bsky.social
I can’t get over how beyond despicable it is to detain street vendors, people that keep our streets vibrant and safer because of their presence. Street vendors are some of the most vulnerable and visible yet we are being told their detainment is to keep us safe. Ridiculous.

Trying to verify info and asking questions is not clueless concern posting btw. The school is at Loomis. These are minor details but I think we should try to be as accurate as possible so that we can in turn share accurate info to our community.

So from what I can gather, the video is taken behind a UIC building at Racine and Congress/Harrison and near the pick up line for a school which is on Loomis. There is no proof as of now that it was targeting the elementary school or parents. The people detained were released.
lyndab08.bsky.social
Not lying though perhaps some more detailed needed which granted hard under duress. This is what I’ve come to think is accurate.

Mmm that’s a fair point. Bar of “truth”
lyndab08.bsky.social
I don't have any reason to believe it's not real. Enough trusted people have posted about it, though details surrounding it vary.
lyndab08.bsky.social
Like how much time did I spend trying to determine whether there was a west loop elementary school, google mapping the west loop, cross referencing the UIC video to it. That's a lot of time and I don't mind necessarily but let's not make a deciphering process for everything we post.
lyndab08.bsky.social
We need more people trained on how to properly document and report ICE sightings. There are a lot of people training people rn too. Lots of trainings available throughout the city.
lyndab08.bsky.social
There's so much info on ICE arrests happening that even small details matter to me. Getting a location wrong just adds to the confusion. There is anxiety but verified info I think means confusion perhaps isn't part of it. Those things matter to me.
lyndab08.bsky.social
There's the UIC building then a lot then the school. It makes sense the pick up lines extend.
lyndab08.bsky.social
I thought that too at first, but this was near the highway, so couldn't be Skinner West.
lyndab08.bsky.social
My best guess from this post and the vid is that the line of parents were for the Chicago World Language Academy on Harrison and Loomis, a few streets down from where ICE detained people outside UIC.
lyndab08.bsky.social
I was not directly involved with the rapid response but a campus group released a statement indicating two people detained had been released. Other unverified reports also indicated they were DACA recipients. That second part is less clear, but based on what I've seen, I trust they've been released.

Sanctuary for All UIC, a campus group, released a statement confirming ICE had detained two people unaffiliated with UIC outside one of the campus buildings. They have since been released. It is unclear how the university is proceeding to inform and protect students from future ICE actions.

ask yourself important questions, like "am i referring to a real place that actually exists" and "did the events i am describing happen there"
