This very very very bad. I cannot stress this enough. I said that they crossed the Rubicon with arresting Ras Baraka several months ago. This is very bad and portends more bad things for regular people.

Also people should keep asking questions about the blurry lines of CPD and how they are abiding by the welcoming cities ordinance. It’s hard for me to see how blocking off and redirecting traffic isn’t facilitating immigration enticement activities.
“You could see guys with FBI, ATF, DEA jackets and vests on,” she said. “You could see plainclothes officers. You could see Chicago [police] was out there blocking off traffic, redirecting traffic, helping them—and they are not even supposed to coordinate with them.” Chicago’s Welcoming City Ordinance prohibits CPD from assisting ICE with immigration arrests, but the department has maintained that it can direct traffic and police protesters near immigration activity for public safety reasons.

In a statement, a CPD spokesperson said they responded to the scene after federal authorities notified them they had detained one person on an active criminal warrant there

Chilling details of the South Shore raid. Residents were forced to expose their bodies to determine “illegality.”
Masked agents made people line up outside the building, where they asked each resident their name and country of origin before lifting their shirt to check for tattoos. They proceeded to ask people if they had documents that proved they resided in the U.S. legally. One by one, building residents, including Black U.S. citizens, were loaded into vans where they were questioned further.

I would be concerned of the other implication of being okay with patients being detained while seeking care in hospitals and community clinics. Many of those alders represent Black and Latine low income Chicagoans members too. They deserve to feel safe accessing their healthcare.

It feels like floor level standards to support your colleague as they demand their civil liberties be protected. All Ald. Fuentes did was ask for a warrant when federal agents were arresting a man.

Pro-ICE Alders? Pro attacks on Govt official Alders?
“Alder Mitchell (7th), Beale (9th), Quinn (13th), Ray Lopez (15th), Coleman (16th), O’Shea (19th), Tabares (23rd), Scott (24th), Sposato (38th), Napolitano (41st),Reilly (42nd), Gardiner (45th), Silverstein (50th)”

So, about that letter of support for Chicago Ald. Jessie Fuentes: 13 alderpeople didn’t sign it • The TRiiBE
The letter describes what the agents did to Fuentes as an “abuse of power.” Mayor Brandon Johnson, City Clerk, Anna Valencia and City Treasurer Melissa Conyears-Ervin also signed it.

Yes! I appreciate their emails about new card designs but would 100% like ones more that inform me about transit issues relevant to me.
lyndab08.bsky.social
Speaks to the fragmented view of transit and like city issues “don’t affect me.” I also think there is a large segment of Chicagoans that also don’t understand the stakes. Whenever I mention the budget issues with people here I’m surprised how much people haven’t heard about it:

Why have such a large list too and not even use it to mobilize people, or at least to inform them what’s going on? I think many more Chicagoans would take action if they knew. Ride hail companies not shy about mobilizing their users the minute there is any sort of perceived threat to their business.
lyndab08.bsky.social
Do you think there would have been legislator pushback because of fear of being called out? I do agree framing the CTA town halls about issues that matter are a way to get more people out and advocating for transit. They're so apolitical sounding but they're anything but.

Another incident of federal agents pointing guns at Chicago area residents.
Tweet from @laura_n_rod

Text: A federal agent points a weapon at a woman who was recording them.

Jess, a U.S. citizen and member of a neighborhood patrol team that documents and shares ICE activity across the city, was filming when the incident occurred earlier today in the Berwyn area.
