Everyone always talks about Millais' Ophelia but my favourite Ophelia painting is probably this one by Heyser. It's just so gentle (and minus giving Elizabeth Siddal pneumonia)

#Ophelia #HistoricalPainting
Heyser's Ophelia painting.

A woman dressed in a white gown lies in a river, the water plants expertly painted around her. There is a flowering lily pad and two red flowers beside her, reminding us of the tragedy unfolding. The woman's face is reposed as if asleep, and her hair floats behind her. The background gives the impression of a risen bank, with plantlife spilling down towards the river water A close up shot of the painting. Here you can see more detail in [the woman] Ophelia's face. Her eyes appear slightly open in death and in her hand she clutches a fistful of delicate blooming flowers. There is a white flower in her hair and her lips are slightly parted.

Sorry to the folks here that I didn't share my book “ By My Ben “published last month, due to BlueSky's obstinacy and its suspension of Palestinian accounts.
But I will share it with you here.❤️

I hope @mommunism.bsky.social will share it too.

My book’s cover About the Author
My name is Joy. I'm a 22-year-old writer from Gaza, currently studying English Literature at the Islamic University of Gaza, which has recently been bombed. I've lived most of my life through war, enduring five conflicts that have stolen my right to live in safety, peace, and love.
I write stories, reflections, and poems. Since I was young, I've been passionate about poetry and literature. Recently, I started my biggest project yet: writing a book documenting everything I've lived through during the ongoing genocide.
I currently live with my mother and four siblings in a shelter, seeking refuge from the constant threat of death due to the violent airstrikes shaking the ground around me. I am my mother's eldest daughter, her close friend, and her supporter (just as she supports me). My father hasn't been with us since we were young; we've always been under our mother's care. I've lost my beautiful, warm home. I've been displaced to over 17 different shelters and locations, each one worse than the last due to the lack of any safe place to go. We face countless struggles, most notably the starvation we endure as part of the siege and strangulation, designed to create a complete cycle of Nazi-like genocide against us.

🎂 It's my special cake and candles day you all have to be nice to me because it's been QUITE the year 🎂

So share some of my paintings??
In the pew-lined interior of a dim medieval church lit by rows of candles on tall staffs and pale sunlight coming through a window, a tall humanoid crow figure with flowing black robes and a glowing yellow eye stands beneath an ornately carved semicircular arch in Norman Romanesque style. On the wall surrounding the arch are many colourful murals depicting more humanoid crow figures with halos, carrying various items including swords, spears, harps, and chalices.
A painting set in a cosy shady woodland clearing on a sunny summer's day. In the centre of the frame, two figures sit on a fallen log mostly hidden by vegetation. The figure on the right has wavy blonde hair down past her shoulders, and wears a flowing white floor-length dress with long sleeves, with delicate lacework around the cuffs and neckline. She looks into the distance with a contemplative, sad expression. On her lap rests a small green book, covered by both of her hands.
The figure on the left sits leaning with her head against shoulder of the other figure. She wears a similar dress but simpler, and in a dark slate grey. Her hair is dark and straight, and flows down her tilted face, and she looks off towards a nightingale bird perched on a nearby branch. She raises a hand towards the other figure as if to get her attention.

Both figures are surrounded by various flowers. On the left of the frame are many spires of foxglove flowers in vivid pink and white, interspersed among green stinging nettles. On the right are the purple flowers of monkshood/wolfsbane.

Wrapping around the figures is a clear stream flowing from a distant pond that descends in a series of steps. Around the stream are many small mossy rocks, and shoots of dark green dog's mercury.

Above and behind the figures and flowers are two trees; on the left is a weeping willow with dangling dark green leaves. On the right are the branches of an old ash tree. A snowy scene in which a humanoid figure in long black robes with the head of a rook stands in a churchyard holding a long spear. By its feet is a red fox. Both are flecked with fallen snow. Around them are many weathered snow-covered graves. In the background is a medieval church of warm coloured stone with large rectangular windows and a battlemented parapet topped with pinnacles. Behind the main body of the church is the tower with clock face and belfry. Behind the church are tall but bare trees dusted with snow. More snow falls in the air. In her mouth there are strands of grass poking out from been her pink lips. She wears a crown of yellow heath Scan of a gouache painting. Rowan, the Tarnished, is framed in the centre of the piece by a golden archway. Her long red hair flows down her back, spilling out of her black hood. Her expression is determined, but half of her face is heavily scarred, with the scarred side hidden as much as possible behind strands of hair. In one armoured hand she clutches Eleanora's poleblade, a red twinblade, while in the other she holds a long blade. The Haligtree backs her, with small scarlet aeonia flowers in bloom. Outside of her frame, a red sunset paints the sky while blue flowers bloom beneath. A gouache painting showing a ghostly tea party in a forest at night. Found this on the AO3 subreddit, and I'm about to let it change my whole life (or at least work really hard to internalize it wrt my writing).
Someone's screenshot of a two-post twitter thread, from user blue (@bluewmist):

the fastest way to kill motivation is to make your identity depend on the outcome. it's called ego involvement. when failing becomes failing as a person, your brain starts avoiding the whole thing. not because you don't care, but because you care too much.

you don't need lower standards. you need less self-worth tangled up in your goals. the work gets easier when it's not about proving who you are.

Absurdist tactics are surprisingly effective against authoritarianism. 🐸

For the curious, here’s a nice little example from Wrocław in the 80’s involving gnomes. 🍄

UK Gouvernment: Payment Processors Can Ban NSFW Content
According to the UK treasury, payment processors are in the right and the gouvernment has no plans to step in. This puts it in direct contrast to what artists and the UK games industry have asked for.
