So Ørsted has canned the Hornsea 4 wind farm project – what does that mean for the pipeline of offshore wind farms between now and 2030?

Not all that much...

Orsted, majority-owned by the Danish government, has decided to cancel the 2.4 GW Hornsea 4 offshore wind farm. The final investment decision had been expected later this year – they've taken it early, and it's a negative.

Ørsted discontinues Hornsea 4 offshore wind project
Ørsted has announced it will discontinue construction on its Hornsea 4 offshore wind project in the UK, despite recently securing a Contract for

Cards for what computers?

I love early MOSFET computers. My family had a BBC Model B (which I believe makes us posh?). We still have it but I don't know if it works

When oil demand starts falling appreciably they'll be in a right pickle; that's an existential threat for the Gulf autocracies (which will be awesome lol)
dangrey.bsky.social
Maybe? OPEC+ members are trying to walk a tightrope of maintaining or increasing market share in competition with the US, but also keeping prices up. They want to drive US shale oil out of the market but not at the expense of their own revenue

Maybe the best hope is that as oil and gas infrastructure ages the cost of keeping it working will hold up fossil fuel prices even as demand falls.

One thing's for sure: you'd be an idiot to invest in oil and gas.

Most investors do know this 👇✅
A chart from the international Energy agency showing that clean energy Investments have increased from 44% of the total in 2015 to 67% of the total global investment in energy in 2025

Stepping back;

Powering cars and heating buildings is cheaper with electricity generated from wind and sun than using oil and gas

So global oil and gas demand will fall

So oil and gas prices will fall

So... at some point the price of oil and gas will reach an equilibrium with wind and solar 🫤

That's certainly the case with my dad. And it's hard to disagree; he built it!

I'm not seeing anything bad here, DESNZ are also moving to make the auction more competitive. It looks to me similar to the pre-AR7 reforms – lift the price cap (ASP for AR7), but make the auction tighter

Why would electrification increase the energy:GDP ratio? Surely it's the opposite?

"Party in the media"?

Unfair headline. The error was HMRC's, not ONS's, and that should be made clear

– 5-6 Mt of virgin steel is made in the UK a year
–2-3 Mt is exported (80% to EU)
– 6-7 Mt is imported
– 8-9 Mt of scrap is exported
dangrey.bsky.social
As steel is in the #r4today news again this is your regular reminder that the UK exports much more scrap steel for recycling abroad than it produces virgin steel domestically.

More than anything else, we need new electric arc furnaces in the UK so scrap steel van can be recycled here

Tbh I don't think he made much of a go of it/had a chance to, wasn't he shuffled out pretty quickly? Plus Labour doesn't need to worry what southern Tory/LD MPs think

"not raising [a tax]" is not an achievement. In our current situation, it's an abdication of leadership.

I'm really really sorry to hear that 😞.

So this is because the pub is a "non-designated local heritage asset", a classification available to LPAs through annex 2 of the NPPF. Due to case law they're afforded a very high level of protection despite being invariably very ordinary buildings.

This classification should be scrapped, end of!

There are another three(!) advice notes and guidance documents to 'help" LPAs draw up local lists of such assets 🤦

Quite a lot of case law set by judges too – who invariably take a very conservative point of view
