I just ordered Villager and a (signed!) hard copy of Everything Will Swallow You from Blackwell's to ship to the US and it was $33 total. Amazing. Looking forward to reading them!
Say we do find valuable uses for using AI at work. Are the differential environmental impacts worth it? Can we make socially responsible choices with AI use in business when it means some people will have less access to drinking water or increased pollution in their communities?
I'm so sorry. Take care of yourselves and each other 💔

What Happens When You Trade Doomscrolling for Hopescrolling: Doomscrolling turns our phones into misery machines—and makes us see the world as a mean, scary place. Here's what happened when Jennifer Mercieca's students tried hopescrolling instead

“There is a distinct difference between ‘unity’ and ‘solidarity’: where solidarity recognizes our differing social contexts and positions but still highlights the criticality of working together, ‘unity’ pushes a violent doctrine of sameness.”

Write the book you’d like to see someone pull from a higgledy-piggledy pile in a secondhand shop sixty three years after your death and say, "This looks fucking weird. I think I will buy it for Joan."

How can we translate the real impact of DOGE cuts to voters? What is her concrete, "explain like I'm 5" message in response to something like gutting the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau? What can we tell people? And what can we do now? (Also, thank her for me. She's remarkable)

Very worried about what this means for UC San Diego medical and Rady’s Childrens.
Here are the 25 institutions that receive the most NIH funding (98% of HHS is NIH). Basically, they're large schools with large hospitals. They receive 50% of all NIH funding.

(Not going to do a whole thread but thought folks might be interested.)

Higher ed institutions need to step up not just to save themselves, but because democratic institutions are an important part of a larger resistance against an over authoritarian project. The stakes couldn't be higher. www.insidehighered.com/opinion/blog...
Higher ed must resist authoritarian rule. It's the mission.
Trying to make your institution a smaller target isn’t going to work.

FOR ANYONE LOOKING TO TURN ANGER INTO ACTION
Here’s advice from a high-level staffer for a Senator. I’m retyping from Allison McGuffie’s post, which she cut and pasted from a friend.

There are two things that we should be doing all the time right now, and they’ve by far the most important things.

The more of us can be awake and clear in this moment, the better we can respond with power to the horrors they are hoping to unleash. The easier to organize. To show up.

And? Even now? You’re allowed joy. You should have joy.

How to find instant clarity

(no hacks or apps)

Feeling stuck? Here's the action map:

1. Overthinking spirals?
↳ Write it down. Get it out of your head.

2. Lost inspiration?
↳ Read. Others' ideas spark yours.
