my favorite is a WRPG non fantasy shop equally cuz a silent ubermensch walks into a shack and the shopkeep that has nine bullets, a can of sardines and like a device that makes you invisible will go "if you even think about steal any of this, I will shoot you were you stand stranger"

I love RPG shops. Going over to some dumpy looking peasant and being like “Here’s 50,000 gold pieces. I need a tome of necromancy, three scrolls of fireball, a potion of invisibility, a dagger, an axe, an amulet of feather fall, and no questions asked,” is such a mood.

HotD ran into the problem of thinking they need three year turnaround but The Hedge Knight is kind of perfect small ball fanatsy story telling, should be fun

Dunk & Egg comming to HBO this january

I like The Lord of the Rings a lot but we need more bite sized swords and sorcery fantasy TV/movies. Willow is the platonic ideal of lightweight high fantasy, and Dungeons and Dragons (2023) is its spiritual successor. But overall the field seems very thin 🫤

"The antihero, Ozymandias, the antichrist type figure," reads like a shitpost about people somehow wiffing on Watchmen
sharonk.bsky.social
thiel, man, what the fuck are you talking about

He describes the plot of Watchmen, a 1986 graphic novel involving superheroes grappling with moral questions about humanity against the backdrop of impending nuclear war:

The antihero Ozymandias, the antichrist-type figure, is sort of an early-modern person. He believes this will be a timeless and eternal solution – eternal world peace. Moore is sort of a late-modern. In early modernity, you have ideal solutions, ‘perfect’ solutions to calculus. In late modernity, things are sort of probabilistic. And at some point, he asks Dr Manhattan whether the world government is going to last. And he says that ‘nothing lasts forever.’ So you embrace the antichrist and it still doesn’t work.

Thiel later finds biblical meaning in the manga One Piece, discussing how he believes it represents a future where an antichrist-like one-world government has repressed science. He believes that the hero, Monkey D Luffy, represents a Christlike figure.

In One Piece, you are set in a fantasy world, again sort of an alternate earth, but it’s 800 years into the reign of this one-world state. Which, as the story unfolds, gradually gets darker and darker. You sort of realize, in my interpretation, who runs the world and it’s something like the antichrist. There’s Luffy, a pirate who wears a red straw hat, sort of like Christ’s crown of thorns. And then towards the end of the story, transforms into a figure who resembles Christ in Revelation.

Thiel, along with a researcher and writer at Thiel Capital, explored these ideas at greater length in an essay for the religious journal First Things earlier this month.

Donald Sutherland really going super hard in this franchise for like no reason. Literally nobody else is doing anything in the ballpark of acting

The history version of "who was president in 2020" impact, is "who was in a non aggression pact with who in 1940?"

RE the USSR: by "pushed Germany out of Eastern Europe" means "was allies two months prior, was getting their shit push in" in December of 1941
telesjr.bsky.social
The US never fought to end fascism anywhere. They joined the war because Japan forced their hand, and they saw a great way to make money. After the USSR pretty much had pushed Germany out of eastern Europe and they knew the nazis were going to lose, they jumped in.

I love match up specific trophies. It's so silly.

"The year was 1908. The greatest of foes. Brother against Brother. The plains of the Midwest stained with blood. We play for this wooden Muskrat statue ever since"

I'm a simple man. Realism is having a lean button and bullets can go through drywall

"You like realism mods too?"
"Oh of course. The only way to play."
"Great! Okay let's say our favorite. I love bullet dro-"
"I must pee every 15 minutes or I die"
irhottakes.bsky.social
Yeah, difficulty in games is ultimately about what behaviors you want to reward and punish. What gets the rat a bite of cheese and what gets it a little shock. I'm all for a hardcore roleplaying experience, but it's reasonable to want to play your role in the game in a roleplaying game.

I love the "it's realistic.. Real life is brutal that is why you starve to death if you don't eat an entire roast chicken every 15 minutes" as a gaming philosophy.

"Gonna go goblin mode-" stop it Diane, you're just antisocial
