High Court injunctions notwithstanding, this will be out as a limited run hardback a few months from now – probably first thing in 2026, as my day job goes mental at Christmas. Put £20 under your mattress, and sign up to my website to be the first to know. You snooze, you lose.

I'll give it a whirl. I would have nominated Metro Manila and Kids.

I saw him in panto around this time. Dick Whittington. When the bells of London called him back, they were playing the tune of Every Loser Wins.

Six years later, Maria McKee would release what I still consider to be one of the greatest albums of all time. Life is Sweet is a masterpiece.

Because if I did that I would have to give it back, and wouldn't be able to line it up with all the others.

Once again I fail in my intention to wait for the paperback of the latest Mick Herron.

For four years I've been visualising Aldi stocking a cardboard-and-can 0% lager. If your dreams aren't coming true, you only have yourself to blame. Visualise harder from now on.
A six-pack of KarlsKrone (for crying out loud) 0% lager. In cans.

Almost nobody openly criticises the eminently criticisable publishing racket. Sam's account is a breath of fresh air – well worth a follow if you are in or around the biz.

Charlie Redmayne departing HarperCollins and Kate Elton becoming temporary CEO, is the seamless switch from Eton boy to head girl Kate (privileged white woman).

Oh publishing, never change. Of course you won’t.

RIP John Woodvine. His Ralph Nickleby was one of the best things that's ever been on telly. He also wins the award for the most unexpected person I ever saw at a Pixies concert – Harlesden Mean Fiddler, 1991.

At the RSC, a superb Banquo, hilarious Dr. Pinch, Subtle & Fainall; but at his peak as a dark and deep Ralph Nickleby. RIP John Woodvine, so well spoken, such a measured presence on stage.

My Sunday evening challenge: first person to post a cartoon which they drew several years ago about Cyril Connolly is the winner. 5-4-3-2-1... I WIN
Cyril Connolly (1903-1974), the English literary critic and author of Enemies of Promise (1938), doing battle with a pram in the hall, and losing.

Amazing. What a man. A total hero.
It's only Edwyn Collins and his band onstage at Buxton Opera House.

36 years after the first time, I'm off to see the mighty Edwyn Collins for the last time.

Next time make a point of mentioning the Specific Ocean.

Can't wait for the zany Hallowe'en ones!!! They're hilarious!!! Also, could never work out why they ring to a deafening volume outdoors. They seem to have peaked, though. Many have vanished, or are still up but dead.
