Mugged Poet. Should've stayed at home. They'll win in the end: it's the only victory we've got left. A plague on all your houses.

Farage fails to address racism claims: ‘He’s thin-skinned, and it’s getting thinner all the time’ | The News Agents
Nigel Farage, who is facing resurfaced allegations of making racist comments at school, now says he “never directly racially abused” anyone – following a previous outright denial by Reform UK. What…

If you've never seen Trevor Griffiths' indictment of a failing dream, here's #ThroughTheNight with Alison Steadman at her most subtle, and Jack Shepherd at his most searing. If he can stay awake... youtu.be/uX9g7V_-iuY?... Send a copy to Wes Streeting.

Terrible, terrible loss. Jack Shepherd's heartfelt, honest, earnestness was 70s socialism incarnate, in #BillBrand and #ThroughTheNight on TV. On stage he made Bill Bryden's Dream & Mysteries zing: the canniest Puck, & the Devil incarnate. RIP you best of players.
RIP Jack Shepherd, seen here in a TV adaptation of Robert Aickman's delightful story "The Hospice"

I’m a past winner of the Orwell Prize & won partly because I exposed Vote Leave’s unlawful activities.

Michael Gove was its co-convener & refused to answer a single q. He’s now a judge of the prize & our world is truly one that Orwell would recognise

Just a periodic reminder.
Wish people would stop saying Trump has done a U-turn on Ukraine. He does this every few weeks. Putin then makes a violent point of ignoring him. Trump's alleged change of heart is just a prelude to his next humiliation by Putin.

The 25th of November is St Catherine's feast day.

"This isn't about God,
the stained-glass legends of broken wheels, the barrowload
of miracles, or the dinner-plate halo they will nail to your head.

Under the gospel,
the truth of it: woman answers back, ends up dead."

Since Labour won power, an insidious little phrase has been popping up constantly in the media: "tax raid".

So I looked into this for @thenewworldmag.bsky.social

And it turns out it once meant something completely different.

Why the right wing media keeps screaming ‘tax raid’
This isn’t journalism, it’s propaganda that reframes tax policy as assault and a democratically elected Labour government as thieves
