In honour of spooky month, share a 4 word horror story that only someone in your profession would understand.

"The chancellor approved it"

"Why do I bother running again? Arghhh" - me, probably.

All worth it though. 😜
Me looking like I'd rather be elsewhere during the Chester marathon. Me pointing to a board saying I finished the MBNA Chester Marathon & Metric Marathon

Ouch. Hard pass from me on that one. I don't think I could ever do one, and I agree with you there.

Thank you! ☺️ Weirdly I've been told ultras are easier than a marathon (pizza and burger stops along the way apparently?! But it's not for me...).

😂 Need to let the physical ailments heal from the first one...
daveymn.bsky.social
Oh that is amazing, thank you so much! 🥰

Officially a marathon runner. ✅ The toughest thing I've physically ever done in my life.

Today is the day I run my first marathon and raise money for The National Autistic Society as well. 🏃‍♂️

Will be tough but feeling grateful that the weather is looking more favourable than what it did a few days ago!

I spoke to a few people, including journalists, at Labour conference who had seen and believed claims on X that Multiverse – Tony Blair's son's company – had been chosen to run the government’s new digital ID scheme

@fullfact.org have checked this claim and it is untrue

So far, so good! Would recommend. 👌

I know trans people in my daily life, and I support them where I can.

Are there risks to creating a digital ID? Yes.

Are there benefits to creating a digital ID? Yes.

Am I curious to see the next steps? Yes.

As I said, I lean towards the support box but there's more to learn moving forward.

Impossible to respond directly when others make personal attacks and make assumptions about my own identity. I'm both LGBTQ+ and neurodiverse.

I've already made it clear in the thread that I see both sides of the argument here. 😅 It's a complex, nuanced subject.

But let's be kind here.

Great thread here from @lewisgoodall.com on this. 👇 bsky.app/profile/lewi...

Today’s digital ID announcement yet another example of how X being the main platform for political discourse will inevitably throw the MSM’s coverage off course, because online right opinion is fevered/way off the beat with the public.

Guess who need digital/reliable ID most? Those in poverty.

First hard disagree, sorry. It is possible for a government to focus on more than one thing, Zack.

No, I want to make it easier for people going about their everyday business who interact with public sector services. If you have a better idea, I'm open to suggestions.

As an addendum - I'm in the soft support category for this. Keen to see how it evolves.
daveymn.bsky.social
The data already exists within government departments.
daveymn.bsky.social
Agree that's a problem, which is why it is absolutely critical that the implementation is well thought through and correct. I don't feel that is a reason to reject the idea on the day of the announcement, though.

Yes, digital IDs pose threats in a cyber security world, but the potential is huge to make everyday processes simple and easy to navigate for people across the UK.

We can't apply a 20th century mentality to the 21st century.

Imagine being able to log into a single app to view your exam results, your driving license, your health record, your council tax information, beautifully joined up behind the scenes instead of needing to remember different credentials.

We live in a digital age and need to adapt.

Liberal Democrats cannot support mandatory digital IDs. People shouldn't be criminalised just because they don't want to hand over their private data.
“Liberal Democrats cannot support a mandatory digital ID where people are forced to turn over their private data just to go about their daily lives... People shouldn’t be turned into criminals just because they can’t have a digital ID, or choose not to.” — Victoria Collins, Liberal Democrat Science, Innovation and Technology Spokesperson.

No different to ITV's F1 coverage being sponsored by Toyota back in 2002.
