yeah with search it is good, partially because you can verify what it's finding based off whether it actually exists or not. I am also cautious about how much better search is from LLMs due to the fact that it is an LLM vs it has not been enshittified yet. E.g. google used to be fine 7+ years ago

Programming wise the best thing I have found LLMs for is API reference. When I use something like Claude and it responds with large "scalable" solutions I'm like whoa there cowboy (A) that is useless for my implementation and (B) now I have 100x more stuff to read through. Anyways it's not god etc

Solution to automation failure: make the AI sound like Goofy. Like "Gwarsh I think you should ____ huhyuck". Works especially well for LLMs. Could also be great for self driving cars, having the little "Goofy stepping on a nail hohohohoooo" sound when it decides to turn left

And yeah there's plenty of psychopath humanities grads out there too, just saying there are things unis can do to allow people (*especially* young people who haven't fully developed their PFC yet) to be human beings and therefore, hopefully, have empathy/nuanced perspectives etc

I used to think "if only engineers had to take more humanities maybe then there would be more empathy", it's a position I've totally reversed my stance on over the years. Yeah I still think every1 should do some humanities, but for engs I think the move is not making them do 6 courses a term

Ethics classes can teach the content of various theories, and thereby impart knowledge and skills which are useful to ethical cognition. But they can't make someone care, they can't make someone good. It's a fundamental mistake re what university education can or should do to hope they'll do that.

Human factors and systems engineering type people have worked with industrial automation systems for decades and LLMs fundamentally don't change all the things you need to think about when it comes to system integration. Seeing this failure rate just makes me think about how many managers it tricked

In the last ~15 years there has been a total disregard of domain expertise. It started kinda innocuously with data science jobs but really hit with genAI. You just can't just throw an LLM at something and expect results w/o really understanding the work domain

The thing about Two State Solution is there must be two states for the two state solution. One of the states would be Israel and the other would be Palestine (2 states). So you must necessarily support Palestinian statehood. People who can't say this outright don't actually want a 2 state solution
