I really think at its heart philosophy is one giant battle, taking place over many eras and nations, between people who are basically pleasant bureaucrats and people who are sexy murder poets, and it’s both super important and super boring that the pleasant bureaucrats must win.

Just found out that there's a chapter of Space Marines called "the Blood Drinkers" who are, in fact, space vampires -- but it is a secret. So they introduce themselves as the Blood Drinkers and sometimes peasants living around their castles disappear in the night. But no one knows they are vampires.

I thought that Hux was a neat character in the first film, Gleeson gave him a lot of weight as this horrible little fascist in a version of the Empire where that ideology was as much a driving force as the Sith/force stuff.

So they open TLJ with him as a comedy character who gets Marvel quipped at.

It wasn't a conscious decision initially, but it's been one for like 10 years at this point. Skyward Sword is meant as an origin point for the entire series, and in it, the final boss curses Hyrule into this endless cycle.

Years ago I was teaching my gun history class and at the end of the quarter one of the students said that he was in the campus TPUSA chapter and they put him up to taking the class to spy on me but he felt bad about that because he loved the class and learned a lot and had a great time

To be fair, I was expecting the business suit and briefcase tactical squad to go straight into Number 10 the day after the election, rope-swinging down from Tony Blair Institute For Change helicopters, just to underline yet again that Fuck you, Britain is not a democracy: you get what *we* want.

"We document the participation of women in European academia [from the year 1000 to 1800]. A total of 108 women taught at universities or were members of academies of arts and sciences. Comparing them with 58,995 male scholars, we find that they were on average better."

They Live is a fantastic film but every time I introduce it to a Gen Z friend I'm reminded that the plot boils down to, "two hobos carry out a series of workplace mass shootings because they believe half the population are aliens wearing human skin"

I agree with that; long time ago had the same feeling with Cash's version of Highway Patrolman, even if the original by Springsteen remains strong as it is. But Cash revealed something. Same too with Mercy Seat and Cave...
