The reason Roboute Guilliman is such a beloved character among the Middle Aged section of the 40k fanbase is basically that he has depression from realising this is true but not quite having enough effective power to make it happen.

The BBC's headlines here feel pretty clearly slanted, like designed to make people have a sorta hostile attitude right? I get that bbc neutrality is a stated ideal often not lived up to, but I'm sorta surprised on this one.

My student Arlene Lo has a paper on the philosophical underpinnings of Canada's attempts to integrate Indigenous groups into its environmental impact assessments. It's now out in (appropriately enough!) the Canadian journal of philosophy. It's good, check it out!

This, of course, is a simplification. I was also depressed. To be more precise, when I was deciding whether or not to go
to grad school I had then-undiagnosed severe recurrent depression [in hindsight I had a lot of sympathy for this lovely
piece Railton, 2015]. Both these were probably the most important factors in trying for graduate school.
In more detail, my primary reason for attending graduate school was that the various jobs I had done before, during, and
after my undergraduate degree were either arduous or entirely unfulfilling. Since I had not really enjoyed pre-university
schooling either, undergraduate philosophy was the one time in my life I had routinely enjoyed the tasks that were my
daily lot, and graduate school seemed a way to perpetuate that feeling. Since I still enjoy my work in the main, I can say
now that this ambition was entirely fulfilled.
What is more, I had a quite erroneous notion that the reason I was so routinely morose was that I had somehow trapped
myself with all my decisions in patterns or habits which, if I could secure a clean break, would simply dissipate into
something happier. Grad school, by offering me a chance to get a visa to some far away land (I mainly applied to
schools in the USA and Australia), seemed a good way of effecting such a change. In fact, those "habits" I was trapped
by amounted to having a supportive network of friends and family who were used to my ways, and moving away from
them prompted a breakdown within a year. But since this in turn led eventually to diagnosis and treatment (facilitated in
no small part by my advisor, Kevin Zollman, going far above and beyond the call of duty to get me help) that at least

This is, like, a minor disagreement and I'm completely fine with the person living their own life as they see fit so don't wanna put them on blast or be annoying in their mentions. But also I do disagree, I feel like this is a bit of a puritanical attitude tbh. It's ok to have some fun sometimes.

This (from: www.ft.com/content/75ce...) is something you can *feel* if you are in the UK, especially if you've experienced living abroad. But infuriatingly successive governments and our entire media are somehow absolutely committed to suggesting anyone who wants to change this is the devil...

I think this prediction is holding up pretty well, and maybe I should have noted the failure of the Turn Charlie Kirk Into A Martyr moment might have been the pinnacle of the phenomenon. In some deep way I think the New Right Loser Men fail to understand what state power can and can't do for them.

I was once again struck by just how utterly pathetic the loser-men of our ruling class currently wrecking society are and I remembered the fashy meme. They, the fashy men sharing it, the contemptible losers of our ruling class, are the weak men. It resonates with them cos they see themselves in it.
