A fungus photo a day: I found these Ossicaulis yesterday on some small pieces of rotting wood, so I could pick them up to photograph (and then put them carefully back). The delicate details on these tiny guys… More photos below.

I should have said "that I've read recently." The book is from 2019, and I found out about it recently. I've been doing a bit of a dive into indigenous and Icelandic folklore lately.
"He was a dog, a man, a wolf. He was clothed, he was naked in his fur, he wore moccasins to jig. He was whatever made you shiver but he was always there, standing by the road, whistling to the stars so that they pulsed bright in the navy sky, as close and as distant as ancestors."
of a giant dog who stood on his hind legs and lured you to your demise with fiddle music and clever jokes. He was the guardian who kept us inside our community and sought to keep out the dangerous predators who would never be prosecuted for their crimes against us."
"The Rogarou is the monster you were warned about if you tried to go into town. The old women didn’t explain that the Indigenous women who went missing in our communities were killed by the men in the town. Instead they conjured up images...

My favorite recent book is a Canadian/Métis/indigenous werewolf/Rogarou mystery/supernatural/thriller. if you're interested in indigenous history and folklore it's informative in a fun way. It's thrilling & a bit scary. A cracking good story.

Because when things are totally dark and you really can’t see the way out, often the best thing you can do is let go and trust that somehow, some way, things will work out for the best. And the amazing thing is that ... they almost always do."

out one way or another. Just lost your job? Þetta reddast. No money in the bank? Þetta reddast. Economy just melted down? Þetta reddast. Volcano just spewed ash all over your arable land? Þetta reddast líka. I love the phrase þetta reddast. To me, it incorporates a profound philosophy.
Part 2

for it is a phrase that captures the essence of the Icelandic national character perhaps better than any other—their optimism, their irreverence, their faith, their tenacity. It also happens to be a phrase that the Icelanders use constantly. Þetta reddast basically means: This will all work

Apparently I'm icelandic:

Part 1

If there is one phrase that captures the Icelanders’ innate sense of optimism better than any other, it is this: Þetta reddast. Þetta reddast should be emblazoned across the nation’s coat of arms,

Huh, I bought the book for my husband, and I was surprised that he didn't like it. He doesn't listen to audiobooks. I've never read a print version myself.
I can't wait. The movie can't possibly be as good as the audiobook narrated by Ray Porter, but I still can't wait to see it.

I'm glad they're thinking about making The Stand into a movie. I didn't watch the TV adaptation after I heard they changed the scenes about Vegas into a "city of sin" kind of setting, instead of a repressive religious place. The story was good as it is.

I think I'd risk my life for a book like All Boys Aren’t Blue by George M. Johnson, Flamer by Mike Curato, or Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe, but I haven't read them yet

I've read them, and I'd fight for Fun Home, Are You There God, It's Me Margaret, The Diary of a Young Girl, and Handmaid's Tale
