Born and raised on the grid of Grand Rapids, Michigan, my 20 years in non-gridded (is that a word?) SF were frustrating on a daily basis. Love Chicago first and NYC second, and their grids are significant to my admiration and appreciation. Urban life is so much easier when it’s logically ordered.

My office view for nearly 20 years. ‘Twas a banger! Alcatraz not quite visible to the upper left. Much happier to be in Chicago, though.

Concord is well known as the home of Walden Pond, made famous by the writer Henry David Throreau, but the small town’s wider geography was crucial to the origins of the American Revolution, Robert A. Gross and Robert M. Thorson argue: https://theatln.tc/7IM93J1s

Making a proper Jägerschnitzel (Bairischer Art) when I finally get home tomorrow. May even put on my good Lederhosen.

Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world,... I feel like I can't take it. And my heart is just going to cave in.

A story indistinguishable from those depicted/dramatized in all the WWII / Holocaust movies and plays and novels we grew up with

This photo was from last month, but I couldn’t resist reposting it. I do not open my windows during allergy season, so I am innocent as charged!

The view from my lobby right now, showcasing the unmitigated joy of courtyard living, in full passive-aggressive yet minimalist candor….😆
Handwritten note, taped to the exterior of my building lobby from a neighbor in an adjacent wing of the building, asking for anyone snoring to please close their window. Disclaimer: I can’t leave my windows open at night due to allergies and nocturnal noise, so this request must be for another neighbor. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Imagine what they could/would do to someone who happens to be on a bike which they consider to be a hindrance? <<shudder>>

Some of the original, medieval flying buttresses on the south side of Winchester Cathedral. A well-traveled passageway leading to and from the Cathedral Close, it was on this side of the Cathedral where William Walker performed his incredible underwater feat of shoring up the Cathedral’s foundation.
My photo from February 2024 of the flying buttresses on the south side of Winchester Cathedral in the UK where I traveled and lived for three months in early ‘24.
