I’ve had some music and movies in storage that I havent looked at for a couple of years. Thought I should just dump it then I opened the box. Big mistake. These are mostly treasures and I have many if them online now but I do want to keep many of them. That Chaos set is by the Taviani Brothers :)
Flight if the Conchords Seasons 1 & 2, The Station Agent, The Barbarian Invasions, Respiri, Body Double, The Man Who Fell to Earth, Simple Men, My Viyage to Italy, Kaos, One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, Beauty Will Save the World. Plus some music CDS including Ron Sexsmith, Bjork, Quantic, Blam Blam Blam etc.

RIP Diane Keaton, I know The Godfather is easy to dismiss as For the Boys but it doesn’t work without an actress who can wordlessly sell this moment

Law prof & former big law attorney here: I don't find this curious at all. The people making these decisions at big law firms are almost certainly not representative of "lawyers as a whole." I'm not even sure they're likely to be representative of all the lawyers at firms.

District court judges, appointed by presidents from Reagan to Biden (including Trump I), seem to understand the assignment more than most law firms. This is curious because the data shows that lawyers as a whole are more liberal on average than federal judges

Perry asks directly whether the feds started the alleged violence in Chicago.

She asks whether it matters if the inability to execute the law was "caused by the federal agents."

Hamilton: "No, your honor."

Well, that didn’t go how I hoped it would. To say I’m a little disappointed in the NZ voting public’s decision on Māori wards is an understatement. Here’s a thought about aspiring to the bare minimum (& given our #nitrate problem even that might be too much)
My Stuff #cartoon today #nzpol
Cartoon. Title: “A Traditional Local Body Election Blessing” Image shows a fairy with a wand, dressed in orange, beside a levitating voting box. She’s saying, “May all your municipal dreams come true!” And then, “And if you can’t have that, may your reticulated water be potable”

“Concerns over an AI bubble bursting have grown lately, with analysts recently finding that it’s 17 times the size of the dotcom-era bubble and four times bigger than the 2008 financial crisis.”

Hang onto your butts. This “correction” is gonna hurt.

“Consider how we make laws. It’s bizarre. Most government policies remain based on hunches, what lawmakers say will work, rather than by testing various options to verify what works best.”

This is from the Auckland Star January 8th 1940. The second mini story is predictable but reads like NZ really was British in those days.

I wrote about some good news: a UK charity that's combating homelessness with some extremely simple, straightforward interventions that use flexible, decentralized decision-making and treat people as people. Their approach showcases the importance of experimental and evidence-based public policy:
