This is from the Auckland Star January 8th 1940. The second mini story is predictable but reads like NZ really was British in those days.
Sorry this is from Jan 8th, 1940. Its all text. Antarctic Does not Appeal and Blessing of Democracy.

I wrote about some good news: a UK charity that's combating homelessness with some extremely simple, straightforward interventions that use flexible, decentralized decision-making and treat people as people. Their approach showcases the importance of experimental and evidence-based public policy:
Should we just give cash to the homeless?
A new charity is tackling homelessness with a simple approach. Does it work?

I hear both of those on the Cake song. Probably no actual conscious connection but my music brain works like that

For me this clip is Miles Davis meets the Tubes during their Completion Backwards Principle epoch.

It’s a brilliant video with 20m views. I sometimes see a video of a song I love with a terrible video. Most recently a Dido song obviously the record exhibiting their lack of clues but this is superb.

I would like to just take a moment to invite you to enjoy Cake's 1996 mega-hit 'The Distance'.

It's likely that you know this song, perhaps even love it. But just take a moment to revel in the utter masterpiece that it is.

Surrender yourself to it.

You deserve it.

I was at primary school with David. He got sent to Auckland Grammar a bit later but i reconnected at Auckland Uni in late 70’s. He managed the Screaming Mee mees for a while. And many other adventures. The poems are available at a market near everyone for around $5 each or more.
