First I encountered the story of Durga and her lion defeating the water buffalo demon. With more digging I learned about the lion-headed god Narasimha's origins. 🧵

But I was curious about the lion and the princess. Their story has been recorded in the oldest chronicles of Lanka with a lot of detail. I began researching the famous mythical lions of the mainland. 🧵

These two would go on to have an immoral son who would be banished from the kingdom. The son and his followers would end up shipwrecked on the shores of Lanka, claiming the island from its yaksha (demon) inhabitants. 🧵

My publisher called me up today and said I'd sold X books over the last Y days. I told them, I don't want to know. It's too soon to judge a book that has just been released. Talk to me in two years.

But... profits? No... profits aren't important.

Telling a story that's worth reading is.

I write in the hope that one day, people will enjoy reading again. I write so that someone somewhere will be able to envision the worlds I have dreamt and make them their own. I write so that a person somewhere learns about life's downs without experiencing the hardships firsthand. #reading
