242/365–‘They Live’ Who could’ve guessed that Rowdy Roddy would be the late 80s hero we all needed (John Carpenter, that’s who!) Drifter puts on sunglasses and, much like taking the Red Pill, finds himself falling down the Rabbit Hole. Consumerism as invading aliens

241/365–‘Creepshow’ Channeling the old EC comics, this beloved anthology written by Stephen King features several unforgettable tales, including one with King himself starring. Romero directed, with some great practical FX. Personal fav? ‘Tell ‘em to call you Billie!’

240/365–‘Arachnophobia’ #HouseOfSvengoolie This and ‘Them!’ back-to-back raised the question of which was worse, a few thousand giant bugs or millions of little deadly ones? Great cast, with Goodman’s good ol’ boy exterminator making this flick charmingly effective

239/365–‘Them!’ #Svengoolie Sven says this was the first big bug movie from the 50s. Shares both a birth year (‘54) and a theme with the more famous ‘Godzilla’—that theme being our splitting of the atom has created atom monsters hellbent on revenge. Intimate and epic

Oh my. I’ll defer to you on this. It was difficult to find anything on the cartoon. Couldn’t even find the one I posted again

Bogart was larger than life, but he was also a superior craftsman who doesn’t get the credit for his acting chops. Here’s one exhibit that shows how the best can convey a range of emotions with nothing more than facial expressions and a certain look in the eye m.youtube.com/watch?v=5Jnz...

I like to say, having read the book a couple summers back, that Tony’s Norman is a vastly different animal than the frumpy middle-aged zero-rizz one from Bloch’s pages, and that is the genius in Hitchcock’s casting. The role haunted him for the rest of his extraordinary life, but he was just sooo…

Warms my heart to hear that folks are actually ‘talking’ about pro baseball. I’m sure there will be more outstanding games to watch!

It was exciting. Had a bit of everything

These two are pretty funny, indeed

Okay, ‘Silent Partner’… what’s the third?

Couldn’t sleep. Watched from after the Seattle-Detroit game until dawn. Both ‘School’ and ‘Watch’ are well worth the effort. American giallo at its gialloist

238/365–‘Night Watch’ Familiar premise. Liz Taylor is an unhappy, insomniac, shut-in-ish wife who sees murder victims in the abandoned house out back. Hubby Harvey and cops have their doubts. Has plenty of giallo flavor, with a twist (twists?) you won’t see coming

I’ve posted about it before, so apologies for repeating myself. But tonight’s movies and this movie particularly remind me of Victorian headless portraits. Why couldn’t I be alive for this selfie fad. This is Ike my new ADHD rabbit hole obsessions. #frightclub @barelyashley.bsky.social

237/365–‘Night School’ Is this (American) 80s giallo? Black gloves? Check! Sharp, slashy blade painting walls and girls red? Check! Incompetent cops? Check! (Double) twist ending! Double check! Boston night schoolers lose their heads, ‘primitive’ rituals factor in

236/365–‘Sugar Hill’ 70s blaxploitation revenger with supernatural elements, captured in that memorable tagline. Sugar’s man gets iced over a nightclub by whitey and she turns to voodoo to settle scores. Kills and love angle reminded me of the Dr. Phibes films, really

235/365–‘Freddy v. Jason’ #FearFest #TLDI As JB says, this grew out of those playground fights over who was the greater slasher. Are you Team Freddy? Team Jason? Who wins? The fans, obviously. A burning Jason coming out of the corn to kill truly is a wonder to behold

234/365–‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ #FearFest #TLDI Joe Bob’s now-annual foray into regular cable. Fred ‘Freddy’ Krueger kills teens in their sleep… for reasons. Gave Darcy childhood nightmares (highest rec!) Scarier than I remembered in what is Fred’s scariest version
