-and it sets up some really goofy ambushes that, due to your limited melee-only kit, you just have to waltz into regardless of whether or not you saw it coming.

All of this would've been swept under the rug if the game knew it's limits and kept the encounters simple.

Instead it throws you into fights against multiple enemies that you can't just run from (even though combat was clearly not designed for that), it reuses mini bosses to an exhausting degree-

I was willing to cut the combat a lot of slack; the contextual counter that sometimes doesn't trigger, the instant enemy grabs and jabs, the awkward collision around larger enemies,

the ABYSMAL camera that I have to keep tilting up to get a clear look at the enemy I'm locked onto.

But the new content was still way too sporadic, especially when some of the new cutscenes were only new by technicality.

And the combat becoming an outright slog by the end, with forced encounters and low enemy variety, made the prospect of a new playthrough pretty unappealing.

I liked all of the new content introduced into NG+ and I appreciate the ways they tried to help expedite the following playthroughs (labelling new cutscenes, filtering out documents that were already read, letting me skip some sections if I already knew the answer to a puzzle)-

I also really like some of the surrounding cast, especially Shu. The situation between him and Hinako is incredibly juicy there's so much I want to say about it but that would go into spoilers and it may also expose my ass.

Hinako is a stellar Horror protagonist, her performance throughout the game is amazing and there's so much to read into her character beyond the clear-cut feminist messages.

The way they handle a certain trope surrounding her is probably the best I've ever seen in these types of stories.

A really good game that could've coasted on it's more-than-functional-less-than-decent combat if it wasn't such a big focus.

They hit the story out of the park and I got a lot out of it, but I do wish there was more to justify full NG+ playthroughs.

60. The Bear (Season 3)

There's still some great episodes but overall this feels like half an arc stretched over a whole season.

The tension between certain characters last way too long even before realising there wasn't even going to be any resolutions this season.

Continues to be pretty good at dropping you into intense dysfunctional situations, with some great standout episodes.

People complain about Claire but I like what she adds to Carmy's character arc.

The new Nishiki scenes in Kiwami 1 were well received afaik so there's hope that Dark Ties will produce something similar at least.

Though as much as I liked Mine he had a pretty succinct backstory. So I'm not sure what I'd get out of this expansion beyond seeing him interact with Daigo.
