I hope we'll see Christian and other religious leaders condemning this in solidarity with our Muslim neighbours too. I do not think that most British people actually approve of the burning of Holy books; and it is essential that this is framed as what it is, an attack on the dignity of all faiths.

Essential that everything possible is done to stop this appalling man gaining power in our country - he's every bit as bad as Farage (and in Jenrick's case we have concrete evidence of how he behaves in power, as he has previously held it).

This is indeed of the highest importance, though we don't only need to look across the Atlantic to see the dangers - our own previous governments repeatedly abused these bodies for partisan ends, including pursuing personal harassment of academics individual ministers disliked. We must not forget.
