Across Bristol, people are at breaking point

Bills keep going up. Rents are spiralling. Families are struggling to put food on the table.

This must be a cost-of-living budget to make our system fairer and, most importantly, to make life affordable again

Today on #TransDayOfRemembrance we remember our trans siblings who have lost their lives to transphobia, hatred & violence…🧵
Today, on Transgender Day of Remembrance, we remember the transgender lives lost to violence.

The Green Party stands shoulder to shoulder with transgender people in the face of increasing transphobic rhetoric in our society and politics.

Our country is in crisis. Bills are too high. People are being forced to live in mouldy, unaffordable homes. One in three kids is living in poverty.

The budget is this government's chance to turn things around: it's time to cut bills and tax billionaires.
At the Budget, the Green Party's message is clear: Cut Bills. Tax Billionaires.

Lots of Labour MPs asking Mahmood tonight to rule out child detention. She won’t rule it out. That’s because forced removals of families will mean children in detention for periods.

Home Office ruling out deportation of lone minors but the changes will certainly mean more detention of children.

The govt's proposed new asylum laws are impractical, ineffectual, and outright cruel. Aping the rhetoric of Reform won't fix the real issues in this country; it will only stir up more false divisions and endanger already vulnerable communities.

A fantastic doorknocking session this evening in Hotwells & Harbourside. The cold can't keep the Greens down! 💪

Lots of support on the doors for @bristolgreenparty.bsky.social and the work @carladenyer.bsky.social and myself are doing in the area, and picked up some face-to-face casework as well 💚

“It isn’t people seeking sanctuary who are tearing our country apart. It’s toxic, racist narratives and the scapegoating of migrants for crises they did not cause.”

Carla Denyer challenges the Home Secretary's new immigration reforms saying they just fuel far-right narratives.

Yeah, but voters do care, Mahmood, they care a lot

They care that you’re tearing children away from the only home they’ve ever known and sentencing them to years of fear, instability, and trauma

They care that violent racist criminals like Tommy Robinson are applauding your policies
Green MP Carla Denyer accuses Shabana Mahmood of trying to "out Reform Reform" and says "toxic racist narratives and the scapegoating of migrants" are to blame for "tearing our country apart" not migrants.

Mahmood: "I couldn't care less what any other political party has to say about these matters"

Huge numbers of young people are out of work - but this govt simply doesn't have the answers. We need real solutions like a National Nature Service which @gndrising.bsky.social are calling for - to give young people good quality employment while restoring our natural world.

This is a new low from a govt plumbing the depths of performative cruelty in hopes that the public won’t notice they have no answers to the real issues facing this country

A sensible, humane govt would focus on safe routes to prevent people making dangerous small boat crossings

Local areas can lead the way on protecting nature, making lives better and securing a safe future for all of us - but they need government to stop starving them of funds.

@carladenyer.bsky.social led the way with her Climate Emergency declaration. Now time for the Government to step up.

Did you know the government spends £2.7 billion a year on tax breaks for oil & gas companies?

I've written to Rachel Reeves to tell her to end this scandal: stop propping up declining oil & gas companies and back workers instead

🦷 DIY dentistry should never be anyone’s only option.
Across the country people can’t get an NHS dentist. Children end up in hospital with tooth decay and adults live in pain. NHS dentistry needs urgent funding and reform.

It’s time for the Government to fix this gap for good.

This morning I laid a wreath of red and white poppies at Bristol’s #RemembranceSunday service. Every November, I choose to wear both a red and a white poppy: red to help those who have been affected by war, and white to work for peace.

Tesla have approved a $1 trillion pay package for Elon Musk. That's 20 billion times more than a nurse in the UK earns.

Don't let anyone tell you immigrants or disabled people are the problem. It's the richest 1% hoarding all the wealth.

Time to tax the super-rich properly.

The burning question I wanted to ask at PMQs today: why is the govt considering slashing funding to home insulation programmes as a short-term, short-sighted way to lower energy bills? Why not do the smart thing instead, and tax billionaires fairly?

This is deeply disappointing from Starmer.

The UK *helped design* this 'TFFF' fund, designed to stop deforestation, and supposedly 'continues to back the fund' (in theory). But now isn't putting any money into it 🤯

How embarrassing for the UK.

Powerful questioning from my colleague @elliechowns.bsky.social, pinning the government on exactly what it needs to do - NOW - to bring about an end to the atrocities being committed in Sudan.
In the midst of horrific mass killings and violence, British-made military equipment has been found in Sudan.

It's clear our arms export licensing system is not fit for purpose; we need a full review, alongside an embargo on all arms exports to the UAE now.

Protest is fundamental to our democracy - we rightly celebrate people like Nelson Mandela who changed the world through protest

But this govt is clamping down on our protest rights with increasingly authoritarian laws
