…Not to mention the massive impact that the climate crisis will have on our economy - which this year already amounted to an estimated £3,000 per household. Badenoch can stick her head in the sand all she likes, but it will be ordinary Brits counting the cost.
carladenyer.bsky.social
If the Tories want to scrap the Climate Change Act, then it's both fiscally and morally irresponsible not to put at least some money into dealing with the effects of the crisis - from flooding to extreme heat - and protecting the vulnerable for example in schools and care homes.
carladenyer.bsky.social
Badenoch's speech completely detached from reality with no mention of protecting our communities from the climate crisis - particularly in light of her party’s plans to scrap the Climate Change Act and throw away Britain's progress on preventing climate breakdown
carladenyer.bsky.social
Grim that Kemi Badenoch hits the airwaves and defends Jenrick's words objecting to 'not seeing another white face' during his Birmingham visit. His hard-right dogwhistle comments are divisive and wrong and make him unfit to be Shadow Justice Secretary www.theguardian.com/politics/liv...
Jenrick accused of racism over ‘no white faces’ comments as he also claims ‘collapse of old order is in sight’ – UK politics live
Labour mayor of the West Midlands says Jenrick’s comments about Handsworth were racist

Two years on from the horrific attacks of 7 October, my thoughts are with all of those who lost loved ones or are waiting to be reunited with those held hostage.

Two years on, we remember the horrific events of 7 October.

We call today, and every day, for an end to the violence.

It's a miracle nobody was hurt. Sending solidarity to the Muslim community in Sussex and across the UK, as well as the Jewish community who are still grieving from the appalling attack in Manchester. No one should EVER feel unsafe in their place of worship

I really enjoyed handing over the leadership baton and introducing @zackpolanski.bsky.social for his brilliant debut conference leader’s speech.

And just before I went on, this lovely video came up on the conference screens. It's so sweet - thank you everyone who had a role in making it 🫶

Wish I could say I was shocked, but here's the Labour government constraining the right to peaceful protest again...

'You can protest but only according to our rules. The rules are: you're not allowed to use any of the tactics that make protest effective.'
peterwalker99.bsky.social
NEW: Home Office announces planned new anti-protest powers, mainly aimed at pro-Gaza protests like those for Palestine Action. Police will be able to consider the "cumulative impact" of repeated protests and potentially order that they be relocated.

Today I've joined parliamentarians from across the political spectrum in calling on Kemi Badenoch to rethink her dangerous position on the climate and net zero - a position which puts Britain's economic strength, national security, and environmental leadership at risk.

I am alarmed and upset by this emerging news of attacks at a synagogue on Yom Kippur.

The rise in religious hate crimes in this country is totally unacceptable - there is no excuse for antisemitism and no excuse for violence.

A large group of MPs drew the Foreign Secretary's attention to attacks on the #GlobalSumudFlotilla 6 days ago...
bellribeiroaddy.bsky.social
84 MPs & Peers have written to the Foreign Secretary today, highlighting attacks on the Global Sumud Flotilla as it sails to deliver aid to Gaza.

We urge the Government to condemn these attacks and make it clear to Israeli counterparts that no harm must come to these humanitarians.
A formal letter on UK Parliament letterhead addressed to The Rt Hon Yvette Cooper MP, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, dated 25 September 2025. It is signed by Bell Ribeiro-Addy MP, Labour MP for Clapham & Brixton Hill. The letter expresses concern for the safety of British citizens participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla aid mission to Gaza, referencing past Israeli interceptions of aid missions, recent drone attacks on vessels, and social media posts suggesting links to Hamas. It urges the Foreign Secretary to ensure that the UK strongly communicates to Israel that no harm must come to the flotilla or the British citizens onboard.

Full text on Bell's website: https://bellribeiroaddy.com/global-sumud-flotilla-letter-urging-the-government-to-protect-humanitarians/ A plain page listing the names of over 80 signatories, including MPs, peers, and public figures, such as Diane Abbott MP, Jeremy Corbyn MP, John McDonnell MP, Zarah Sultana MP, and others, showing broad political support for the letter.

Scary to watch the Global Sumud Flotilla being intercepted by Israeli forces - we know how brutally the Israeli military has treated those on previous flotillas.

The world is watching - the Foreign Secretary @yvettecooper-mp.bsky.social must urgently step up to ensure safety of UK citizens on board

Our government must act now. Platitudes are not enough!

Today along with @sianberry.bsky.social I've published a report on our constituents' appalling experiences of the leasehold system. From extortionate fees to poor treatment at the hands of management companies, residents are being held to ransom in their own homes. Govt must act fast.

Title: Carla Denyer MP publishes report on leasehold 'horror stories'

Quotes:

"Every single time our costs are over our agreed service charge..."

"Service charge has escalated in recent years, while service has in no way improved... there are considerable security issues. At times the front door isn't working." Image of a stack of papers on a blue and purple background. Quote reading: "It's clear that the feudal leasehold system needs to be abolished as soon as possible, and action is needed from government to protect those who are already living in leasehold homes and suffering hugely as a result."

Good. This is an important victory.

It's a stain on our democracy for Michelle Mone to remain in the House of Lords. But it's even more important that the Tory ministers who set up the corrupt PPE VIP lane in the first place are properly and fully held to account for the scandal

Dark green background with the repeated faded number “80,000.” In the centre, bold bright green text reads “80,000 Green Party Members.” Above it, smaller white text says “REAL HOPE. REAL CHANGE.” At the bottom is the Green Party logo and name.

Would you like me to also draft a shorter, more minimal version for accessibility-first posting (e.g. “Graphic with text: 80,000 Green Party Members. Real hope. Real change. Green Party logo”)?

I've asked all Bristol MPs to join me in this call. @kerrymp.bsky.social, @damienegan.bsky.social, @darrenpjones.bsky.social &
@karinsmythmp.bsky.social - at a time of rising division when asylum seekers are being targeted, will you join me in showing that Bristol will always be a welcoming city?
carladenyer.bsky.social
No-one should have to choose between getting the bus to vital appointments, and paying for other essentials like phone credit, clothing or legal documents. Along with @edplowden.bsky.social I've written to @mayorhelengodwin.bsky.social to call for free bus travel for asylum seekers.
carladenyer.bsky.social
Today the BBC reported on asylum seekers relying on home office-funded taxis to get around. But as I heard when I visited Bristol City of Sanctuary, this isn't the reality for many - it's being forced to walk for hours to get to appointments, sometimes with kids, or miss out on essentials.
