And let's not forget that UKHEI employees- not SMTs - are ensuring students and colleagues are in a safe and secure environment

SMTs:
"Do the teaching"
"Do the research"
"Do public engagement"
"Do the curriculum transformations"
"We will sack 1 in 3 to 1 in 4 staff to ensure the University is sustainable in the future"

"Tuition fees set to be lowered at universities with poor teaching"

'Our University would do well to stop neglecting the threats to humanities education, and start publicly taking up the banner of the humanities.'

Could (and should) be said of so many universities, across the globe.
Harvard Can’t Afford to Neglect the Humanities | Opinion | The Harvard Crimson
Harvard exists to promote the highest intellectual pursuit in every discipline — it can’t leave the humanities behind.

Good morning! 🌱
Lots of berries on my Japanese honeysuckle, but sadly they’re not edible.
Small black berries in the middle of green leaves.

The BIG Vote 2025 - Round 1

🗳️Round One is open to everyone, not just our patrons - as we create a long list of titles for whittling down. Which means you, yes you, can help shape our next projects. The next rounds go down to our patrons only, but at this stage it's a free for all!

🧠Fun Fact: our Wyrd Revels season was almost entirely chosen by our patrons. Every year we have a big vote, and the highest ranked choices go into production or development. Doctor Faustus came top, then Witch of Edmonton and Wise-Woman of Hogston.
Which means, it's time to do it AGAIN!
🗳️BIG VOTE!🗳️

This is the issue 👇

combined with the fact that SMTs will not engage in any kind of meaningful discussion with any employee (not just academics) before unions are invoked

In brief, it is dystopian
ukhenews.bsky.social
A problem UCU has to contend with is that academics have no leverage over management in UK HE.

Refusing to teach or mark is no problem for senior management, as they can bypass academic roles.

In fact, they are itching to sell degrees without any substantive academic involvement.

It might be the middle of October, but there's still lots of life in the garden! #nature #autumn #wildflowers #fungi
Fox and cubs. Bright orange wild flower growing in grass. Ivy-leaved toadflax, small plant creeping along a wall. Small purple flowers. Fungus growing in the grass. Small brown mushrooms. Don't know the name. Heather. Some pink flowers still visible but some have turned brown.

A UK presenter shouldn’t crow about an audience’s ignorance of Nathan Gill who took bribes from Kremlin agents & was a close ally of Farage . It shows they have failed to do their job . What next , telling us that Watergate was one of the lowest points in investigative journalism 🥺 ?
joybe.bsky.social
The Nathan Gill scandal should be huge news so why has the British media been mainly silent about it? (I think we know 🤔)
Here's Fiona Bruce shutting down any mention & acting like the audience aren't interested.

Staff and students came together early on a Friday morning to show their support before negotiations.
The negotiations did not lift the threat of compulsory redundancies, so we'll be on strike again in the coming week.
