Venice is empty. “Signora Bianca!” And then—there. The distant sound of a door opening and closing, and appearing on the sand-colored balcony, Bianca. She’s dressed for bed, even though it can’t even be ten o’clock yet, a red velvet robe over her chemise and her golden hair loose. “Riccardo? What are you—” her eyes flit from him to Marina behind him, and her brow furrows— “when did you come back to town?” “Is Amadeo with you?” he asks instead of answering. She hesitates—just a fraction of a second, but he catches it, and his eyes narrow as she lifts her chin and says “I haven’t seen him.”$

Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, a pioneering trans activist from the Stonewall era on and a woman who lived an extraordinary life, has died. She was one tough customer. I have always loved this quote from her and if you've ever tried to ascertain the truth about a moment in history, you may relate to it.

“If you ask me something I’m gonna tell you the truth, you know. And it has to do with my perception of things, not theirs or what someone else has said. They aren’t me.
