I have need for extra monitors when docked, the M4 Air doesn't cut it for me. But I also don't need most of the other hardware when working in this configuration.

I have thought about getting a refurb M1 Air (they're under $400) as a glorified SSH machine because every non-Mac at the price is worse

but as it is, for most tasks my very expensive MBP is now just a browser, a terminal, and an editor

if anyone who wasn’t Apple made a decent laptop at a price that was worth buying not-Apple I would buy one just as a dumb client
